phreakwars Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 http://www.rawstory....s-voters-stupid Source: RawStory.com The troublesome record of spin by conservative television station Fox News has long been a cause for concern to many Americans, who frequently allege that the nation's most viewed "news" network has the effect of dumbing down voters. Turns out, they were right. A University of Maryland study (PDF) published earlier this month found that people in the survey who had the most exposure to Fox News were more likely to believe falsehoods and rumors about national and world affairs when compared to those who paid attention to other news outlets. Read more: http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2010/12/study-confirms-spin-... / In a summary carried by Alternet, the following falsehoods were most relayed by Fox News viewers: [ ]91 percent believed the stimulus legislation lost jobs;[ ]72 percent believed the health reform law will increase the deficit;[ ]72 percent believed the economy is getting worse;[ ]60 percent believed climate change is not occurring;[ ]49 percent believed income taxes have gone up;[ ]63 percent believed the stimulus legislation did not include any tax cuts;[ ]56 percent believed Obama initiated the GM/Chrysler bailout;[ ]38 percent believed that most Republicans opposed TARP;[ ]63 percent believed Obama was not born in the U.S. (or that it is unclear). The poll's findings seem to sync with those of an NBC News survey (PDF) taken during the height of America's health care reform debate, where Fox News viewers were found to be most likely to have believed wildly inaccurate interpretations of the legislation. . . 1 Quote https://www.facebook.com/phreakwars
Ahhlee Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 My boyfriend is a FOX News watcher. I'll have to ask him tonight if he feels any dumber. :teehee: Quote
jokersarewild Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 That happens whether you watch Fox or not. If you only listen to one news outlet, and do no research yourself, you'll only know of the opinions of one news outlet, and take it as fact. It doesn't dumb you down, it means you're a moron in the first place. Quote RoyalOrleans is my real dad!
hugo Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 •91 percent believed the stimulus legislation lost jobs; Did not help much and given the increase in the national debt that may well be the longterm result •72 percent believed the health reform law will increase the deficit; Yes, it will. If not in the first decade the second. •72 percent believed the economy is getting worse; Anemic growth, lprospects looking somewhat better after the November elections. •60 percent believed climate change is not occurring; Climate change is always occurring. Even before man was on this planet. •49 percent believed income taxes have gone up; Sooner or later deficits gotta be paid for. Right now we are throwing the burden on our kids. •63 percent believed the stimulus legislation did not include any tax cuts; They are wrong there •56 percent believed Obama initiated the GM/Chrysler bailout; Dick (Tater) Cheney gets the blame here •38 percent believed that most Republicans opposed TARP; 38% of people are stupid in any poll. •63 percent believed Obama was not born in the U.S. (or that it is unclear). It is unclear from even mainstream media sources. This convinces me of his birth in Hawaii. http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/born_in_the_usa.html. ImWithStupid Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 What wasn't told here is that the study actually showed that those who watch MSNBC or network news for most of their info were also misinformed if the questions were about something that favored a topic that liberals were passionate about, it's just that most of the questions asked were conservative hot button issues. You say that all the time, here and on the Telegram site, yet you never produce any evidence of constant lying by MSNBC to the masses. I mean you had the black guy carrying a gun one from a couple years ago, but nothing else. I guess that must be an auto response reflex action when someone cuts down Faux News. Try to make it better by saying some other stations lies to us all too. Your evidently in the same category as the high percentage of Fox viewers who are comfortable being misinformed. . . builder Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Two questions; Why is this a debate topic? Fox noos is the dumbing down of the real news for the masses. Second question; If you want real news, why watch Fox? You have every news service at your fingertips, unless of course you don't have a clue how to search the interknob. If that is the case, watch Fox Noos. Quote Persevere, it pisses people off.
phreakwars Posted December 29, 2010 Author Posted December 29, 2010 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8KHOgyYyHQ Ahh the ever popular right wing excuse maker of youtube "howtheworldworks" goes on a crying spree... but but, the questions were this, the questions were that.. All of his crybaby excuse making can be debunked VERY EASILY by anybody willing to watch another youtuber's videos showing HUNDREDS of examples of Faux News lying http://www.youtube.c...r/LiberalViewer The REAL funny thing about Mr. "howtheworldworks" is when someone calls him on his bullshit, he deletes their comments. Just take a look at any of his given videos and view the comments, you'll always see a nice set of deleted comments from others... big baby can't handle it. . .
