OT: KAVDOS32.exe /switch syntax ?

Recommended Posts

Can anyone explain Kaspersky's CLS scanner switch syntax ! ...please :-)

(...Sophos CLS switches are so straightforward in comparison !)

KAV is so ambiguous I'm half afraid to use it !

....specifically what are the KAV CLS defaults ? ...are all switches on

unless used with a "-" (minus) to invert them,

....and does that inversion switch something on or off, because at the end of

the help screen it says,

"for all options '-' inverts the default meaning."

.....well that's fine if one could deduce what the default settings are !

e.g.

The help screen ( kavdos32 /? ) shows switches in this format e.g. :-

/B[-] skip dos boot sector test

....is it the case that I've got to use the /B switch to skip the test, or is

it going to get done anyway - because I haven't used the /B switch,

conversely, have I got to use /B- to make sure it does get done - if I want

it done, ...if you see what I mean !

I'm guessing that DH Lipmans KAV CLS switches selection in his multi-av /

Windows Command Console "application" :-

/- /E / /MD /MP /Y /Z- /W+=ScanReport.txt

means that /Z-

="Disable Aborting" is switched off ?

....without the minus it's ON ?

....what's the default is the /Z switch is not used ?

TIA

oooh, well I posted more or less the same question in there.

I've got a spare machine atm, I can play with KAV32.exe's /switches on that,

and also play with a BartPE bootable cd which seems always to result in a

destroyed PC !

Hi Dave

I haven't contacted Kaspersky. Recently have had no time to spend on

knocking up a batch file to run Command line Scanners, similar to David H

Lipmans Multi-AV command console application.

I will be experimenting on a spare computer - to get those CLS's running

with the switch sttings I prefer - within the next few weeks.

Hello Kalyan

Thanks for your post. Please could you give me a 'reminder' of how/when I should instigate such

commands?

I'm afraid I've been thinking about non-computing things recently! <wink>

KAV is one of the best antivirus programs, with thorough scans, many user

options, and hourly updates of its databases. Runs from command line with

parameters typed in, or from batch file, or from a graphical shell. Settings

can be stored in a plain-text file (default name DEFDOS32.PRF), either by

editing directly or from the shell. 32-bit program (DOS extender built in),

requires 80386+. Runs under DOS, DOS32, OS/2, and under Win9x in box, full

screen, or when booted to command prompt (best)

Many thanks for your swift response, Kalyan. It prompted my memory bank into action!

I am currently using Kaspersky AV7 and have always used what - I think - you mean by graphical

shell. I was totally unaware that it could be run in any other way!

Perhaps I'll experiment the next time it's a rainy day! (I'm using XP Home SP3)

Hi Kalyan

I've had a quick try at running KAV in DOS without much success. If you can

find the time, could you give me a step-by-step set of instructions to start

the programme running (from the C:>)

Many TIA

Dave

Do they not have night school in the UK where you can go and learn about

computers?? I really don't think a private tutorial is called for on

these groups, OT or not.

And I do think it is time to killfile you because you are one ROYAL

PITA!!

I learned my electronics on tubes long before I learned what a MOSFET was.

I even built a push-pull amplifier using 6L6 tubes :-)

Heathkit, or standard 'breadboard' kits were great fun.

The Commodore +four user port was a good feature

for computer enthusiasts (back when computers were

more than just communication devices) to experiment

with.

These days if something doesn't "just work" when you

turn it on - most people can't figure out how to use it.

Back then it seemed like nothing worked until you made

it work - and that was the real value.

I don't need to, David. I have KAV7 installed already (from a purchased CD from a local store).

Kalyan said it could be run in DOS. I'm a bit rusty and I hoped he would clarify the stages required

to save me stretching the grey matter!

I have 'tested' your Multi AV Scanning Tool. It worked well. My only scepticism is that it isn't

available on a recognised site. Perhaps you could ask the guys at Malwarebytes if they would host

your facility. They aren't trying to compete with the Anti-Virus market, Just a thought!

That's a great memory -- HeathKit !

I built a 5Mhz HeathKit Osciliscope and a HeathKit Colour Dot Bar Generator for aligning

coluor TV sets.

I also had great phun with Z100's and 8bit CPM.

Thanx foe the memories "FromTheRafters"

Maybe...

But I am not a member of MalwareBytes I just know a bunch of their crew.

The Editor and Chief of PCTipp is an aquaintance of mine and she asked if PCTipp could

host my Multi AV after Butts pulled his fraud. As she put it... "Butts versus the world's

largest IT publishing house? Come on ;-)"

PCTipp is a division IDG Communications [iDG International Data Group].

It may not be an anti malware organization but it is a well respected and trusted

information technology publisher. The only problem as I see it is that the site is in

Swiss-German.

BTW: A new version, v7.00 will be coming out soon. :-)

Oh, Man, that brings back memories - I did an entire batch weighing

system for a factory using a Commodore and programming the ports to

strobe the signals in/out so that I could read the scale data....

One of my fondest memories was the HZ89 computer kit style_emoticons/
