Guest shuvlboy Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 I ran a free-trial version of Verizon PC Security Checkup. It id'd 30 instances of spyware. After removing them, I rebooted. I can no longer bring up the Control Panel, My Computer, Explorer, or any folders on the desktop. I get a "Fatal Error - Cannot start Freedom, because the "Resource" directory or one of its sub-directories is missing. Please try re-installing Freedom." Internet Explorer 7 also hangs, but doesn't generate the error. (Firefox doesn't appear to be affected.) Verizon tech support has been polite, but not very helpful. Any suggestions? I run XP on a desktop HP. Quote
Guest jwgoerlich@gmail.com Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Hello, Freedom.exe is Radialpoints/Zero Knowledge Systems' Freedom Parental Controls. This is included with Verizon PC Security. Please try repairing or uninstalling Verizon PC Security. Guest MAP Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 See if their is an option to restore what was removed by that program look in it's quarantine folder or settings area. P.S. I seem to be the person at work who everyone brings their PC's to to have them fixed I have found that the free anti-virus/anti-spyware programs provided by your ISP's really, really suck. Stay away from them. -- Mike Pawlak "shuvlboy" wrote: <span style="color:blue"> > I ran a free-trial version of Verizon PC Security Checkup. It id'd 30 > instances of spyware. Guest shuvlboy Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 I was able to locate an executable on the RadialPoints website that uninstalled all their security services s/w. Verizon Tech Support was stumped - your input was the key. Thanks. Guest mszbdog1 Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I do not have Verizon PC Security anywhere on my computer, I did a search for it and nothing was found, no Radial Points either, but did see zero knowledge freedom in All Programs, when I tried clicking on it I got a message stating wrong path or is missing, something to that nature. Not sure whats going on, but I don't have a clue what to do or how to re-install Freedom to see if this fixes the problem (hence the ending of Fatal Error: Please try re-installing Freedom. Where do I reinstall it from. How do I get it? On the web somewhere? Thanks for any additional help you may be able to offer me. Guest mszbdog1 Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Please tell me exactly where on the RadialPoints website did you find the exectable? I am at a loose end trying to figure out how to fix my computer. I don't have Verizon PC Security Checkup anywhere on my computer. I did a search and scan for it after reading your post but it's not there, which is a good thing (I guess) since I never downloaded it in the first place. I really really think my son-n-law deleted something important on my pc ,but can't get to my recycle bin, control panel or My Computer because of the same error you got. I don't even know what Freedom is or where to get it in order to re-install it as the end of the error message ask me to do. Please any help would be great. I'm going nuts here. Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to provide. I googled "radialpoint" (without the quotes) and chose the "user communities" link. Under support, knowledge center, uninstalling, there is a link marked as "here" that leads to that executable. You may need (or just want) to re-install the software too. They have a discussion board there you may want to use to find out where they hid the installation executable. Quote
