Guest Vista Frustrations Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 I get this annoying warning when I open and .exe file. The warning gives me the option to deselect the 'always ask when opeing this file', but it reappears the next time I open the file and the warning is reselected even though I already deselected it. The warning has a help link on the bottom ' how can I decide what software to run' and all the help links talk about is downloading which has nothing to do with this warning dialog box. How do I get rid of this annoying security warning on this file. If I go to properties for the file, there is an unblock option which I select and apply, but it too reappears the next time I open the file properties. Quote

Guest Vista Frustrations Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 I disabled the prompt as shown, but it still shows up. I uncheck the always ask box in the warning dialogue box, but it still shows up and with the always ask checked. Not sure what else to say, these functions do not seem to be working properly to me, but then that can probably be said about the whole operating system. Guest Bob Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 Are you saying you made the changes to your registry and you're sill getting the UAC prompts? If you have, restart your PC and see if that disables the prompts? Guest chumvp Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 To remove those annoying security warnings you must follow these easy steps - 1- Open in the windows explorer "C:\Users\Public\Public Desktop" 2- Remember the names of the programs or files you want to remove the security warning (I recommend using notepad because it's easier to remember that way) 3- Delete all the program shortcuts from the desktop 4- Open the Program Files folder on My Computer 5- With the names you wrote down in notepad search the application in the Program Files folder 6- Copy the program or file and in your desktop right click and select "Paste Shortcut" 7- After you pasted all the programs on the desktop open the "C:\Users\Public\Public Desktop" folder and paste all of them in the desktop. 8- You will now see that you have the program copied twice on the desktop, open them both and delete or send to the recycle bin the one which pops up the security warning (Note This would _NOT_ delete the program or application) 9- Try opening the program or file and see if it works. If it doesn't work redo the steps again. Enjoy! -- chumvp Quote
