Sorry if this has been done before but I HATE malware. I can't believe this garbage is even legal. I understand companies want to gather information on their target market but putting crap on people's computers without their persmission is NOT the way to go. I find spyware, adware, and internet worms on my computer almost daily. I'm sick of this crap.

I guess it's time to stop surfing the net for porn.

Our computer froze up last year because of all the adware/spyware. It is rediculous.

Any hints, tips, or advice? I currently use Adaware Pro, Spybot (the free version), SBC anti-adware, SBC anti-viral, and Norton Antivirus. The weird thing is it seems to always be the same stuff over and over again.

I don't surf the net very often and pretty much only visit the same sites. I get a worm at least once a week and have cleared off over 4,000 items of spyware in the last year.

Trojans have to be the most annoying as they spawn scumware and even other trojans.

It's a never ending battle for sure. Your doing the right thing though. I like spybot becuse of the immune button. once it has it in its data bank you shouldn't get that one anymore. But the companies are getting smart and putting out different ones probably weekly.

Next time you see it, make a note of what it is.

Is it posible that its in your registry and re-installing when you re-boot? I had that problem but finally found a program that would pull it out of the registry.

What is a registry and how do I clean it? What's the name of the program?

My best advice would be too ask Phreak what programs in specific will take Malware out of your registry.

You shouldn't go into your registry and start deleting as this CAN totally FUCK your computer. However there are programs that will do it for you.

What can happen is that some of these programs can get on your computer and implant themselves into your registry. You think you have gotten them out by running some of the programs designed to remove these problems. However, when you shut your computer down and turn it back on, they come back, from the registry. Thats how their designed to work and be a general pain in the ass.

I don't know that Lavasoft Adaware actually pulls things from your registry. But as I said Phreak would be THE person to ask.

I am in the same boat as you are. I really don't know anything about computers. I usually send mine out every couple of months, just to get it cleaned out. Right now I have all kinds of pop up blockers, spam killers, and my anti-virus.. And when ever I do run a quick scan it always finds something..

believe it or not, Microsofts Windows Defender works pretty good, and for now anyway, it's free. get it here

I use the trio- Windows defender, Lavasoft's Adaware, and Spybot S&D on the computers at work, and it keeps them clean with all the junk the guys there surf through.

Just constantly check for virus definetion file updates on them

I was thinking it was my Microsoft Windows Defender that pulled things out my registry but I also use the other three just to make sure. However I have not seen Adaware pull anything out of the registry.

I'll mass-reply to everyone here to make things easier on me: :D

Eddo: I downloaded Microsoft Defender and initialized it but was anything supposed to happen? I thought it was one of those programs that ran in the background but I don't see it anywhere.

Kath: I used to do that (have my computer completely cleared) but I have all of my site-building software on there now and it would be a pain to have to install of it again. :p

Lethal: Thanks for the tip. I think that is exactly what was happening. I would run a spyware scan, delete everything, then restart my computer and see new spyware. Hopefully Phreak and Eddo will answer my questions so I can get rid of that junk.

SmuttButt: Thanks for the tip. I already have Adaware but went to download the PC-cillin thing and used the online scan feature. Thanks!
