Guest Johan Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Hi, My firewall gives me this error message when i try to set it on. "Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall service." I have just installed SP1 but the problem started before that. Quote
Guest Bob Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Run services.msc. Scroll down to Windows Firewall and start the service. Guest GTS Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Try running this command in an elevated command prompt netsh winsock reset Reboot and then try enabling the firewall. This recently worked for me in servicing a customers machine with the same problem. -- "Johan" <Johan@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:07ECB0EF-586E-448A-B61A-8C0CE8469FAB@microsoft.com... > Hi, > My firewall gives me this error message when i try to set it on. > "Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall service." > I have just installed SP1 but the problem started before that. Quote

Guest GTS Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 That shouldn't cause any problem. Does the event log have any useful information? Also, here's one article (that may or may not apply to your issue). http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943996/en-us -- "Johan" <Johan@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:49FE3FD7-8E39-470D-90CF-1F99E10FF76D@microsoft.com... >I do have the free version of Avira antivir installed. > > "GTS" wrote: > >> Have you ever had a 3rd party firewall or security suite installed on >> this >> computer? >> -- >> >> "GTS" <x> wrote in message >> news:%23aPCMbJoIHA.5016@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... >> > Try running this command in an elevated command prompt netsh winsock >> > reset >> > Reboot and then try enabling the firewall.
