Guest Hopeanna Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 I had a good post going and hit the wrong button! Okay...I am a medical transcriptionist who works from home. I must use IE for work. I do have firefox which I love but I cannot do searches on Firefox for whatever reason. I always get a "missing link" message. I will give you what has happened, what I have done, and try to be concise about it. When the last Vista/IE updates came out in early April, i downloaded and installed them. Computer came back on, my mouse wouldn't work, not even a cursor would show up. After several hours of trying various things like rebooting in safe mood, I tried to manually roll back my computer, no easy feat without a mouse, and it didn't help. Gave up and went to bed. Next morning, turned on my comp and the mouse worked great but my keyboard wouldn't work, at all. Spent 77 minutes on phone with work technical support guy and finally reinstalled my keyboard and it worked. Ever since this install/rollback, I have had issues with EVERY site that needs an updated security certificate IE says that it is not a safe site. Again, on EVERY site. To me this says it is my computer and not the site. I know the work site is up to date, noone else sees this but me and I assume that E-bay and Pay-pal and all the other secure sites I visit are also up to date. Again, no one else I've talk to has had this issue. I can override this and work but its getting annoying. On top of this, I cannot log into Yahoo IM. I can log into the webpage but not the IM. Says it cannot connect to server. I can log into my MySpace account but it says Im not logged in yet it says "Hi, Hope" and my page says that I am logged in. My clock on the toolbar has the correct information. I have tried to figure out how to reset internal clock with no luck. I do not use McAfree I use CA Security Suite 2007, which is up to date. I ran that for viruses and spyware and also ran Ad-Aware 2007. Lets see, I also tried messing with the internet options and that didn't get me anywhere. I've also played with the CA firewall and again, nada. Oh and, I have tried to install the updates that are on my computer from microsoft and all I ever get is an error message saying that it cannot do it. I have 7 updates sitting on my computer all from April 8, 2008. I am really ready for my computer to work right again. Please give me any ideas. I am sorta computer savvy but would appreciate step-by-step instructions so I can print it out and follow along. I'm the dangerous type of computer runner. I know just enough to royally screw it up. Thanks and sorry its so long, Hope -- Hopeanna ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hopeanna's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=47181 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=956906 http://forums.techarena.in Quote

It turns out the date on the computer was set as 2003 instead of 2008 which made all certificates seem expired to my computer. Check the date by clicking on the time display in the lower right corner of your computer screen....it might just be that simple! Good luck:) Quote
