It is "off" but "what you were doing" has been saved to disk so that when "on" again it can resume from there. BIOS needs power "on" too in order to execute its code. Quote

When I say powered off I don't mean at the wall. I mean still switched on at the wall and with the PSU still receiving power via its physical power switch (if fitted). As you say, it can only be off for a given meaning of the word "off". Hibernate mode is "powered off" in the same way that Shut Down is. Sleep mode does everything that Hibernate does (saves the RAM to disk) but keeps the RAM alive for a faster Resume time, therefore using a tiny bit more power. If the machine is unplugged from the mains (as some people say you should do with all appliances) then obviously it's never going to wake up (unless of course it has batteries, as laptops do). Sorry if I caused any confusion. I'm trying the Hibernate test tonight in an attempt to recreate the OP's symptoms. If it works then all janis75 should need to do is locate the tasks in question and put a tick in a box. Quote

My screenshot was about windows updates, not scanning which ianis was asking about ---- scanning. Please show me where you find the task schedule and the box to tick . I'd like to see that myself. Thank you. -- t-4-2 Quote
Guest Rojo Habe Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 Yeah, sorry. This thread's getting a bit long and confusing. Click the Start button, type 'Task Scheduler' (without the quotes) and press Enter. If UAC complains click Continue. In the Task Scheduler View menu, select 'Show hidden tasks' and then navigate in the left pane to Task Scheduler Library\Microsoft\Windows Defender. In the top middle pane, double click 'MP Scheduled Scan' and in the dialog that appears click the Conditions tab. You should see the checkbox about two thirds of the way down, under Power. Screenshot attached. I had the box " wake --" ticked. PS. What screenshot ? And yes, the thread is too long. That's it. Thanks again. -- t-4-2 Quote

They blocked your screenshot. I did find your screenshot later from Windows Mail. I rarely go to WM for obvious reason -- no notification. Come to think of it, you saw my screenshot posted in Vista forum, but I couldn't see yours posted in WM ?? That makes sense ??? -- t-4-2 Quote
