block IE7

Can Defender block acces to a program? I want to block kid's access to IE7,

and in my old XP computer I could do that with ZoneAlarm Pro. Since I just

got a new Vista, I am trying to use all the Vista stuff that's built in,

rather than going to another solution.

Thanks,

Mike

You want someone to stop using a program, then you go to Vista's security

using NTFS security and stop the user by user ID from executing the

program., just like you should have done on the XP O/S. ZA was not the

solution for this even on XP.

Could you give me a pointer on how to get started doing that? I have the new

computer now, Vista Ultimate, and using Windows Firewall. I'd still like to

block IE7 access by all users, all accounts (admin and standard).

Thank you,

Mike

Works well! Is there anyway to block it for just one standard user accout?

That method works very well but removes IE7 for all users.

I thought you said that.?

Anyway, no, that is a "blanket" restriction.

For individual account, you have to go through Parental Control. WAIT!

I know what you're going to say. But you have not seen it done this way,

I don't think.

Bear with me, you'll see what I mean :--

Control Panel> Parental Control> under PCONT, "dot" ON, further down,

click Windows Vista WEB Filter> you're on Web Restrictions window. Check

"only allow websites which are on the allow list", then click "Edit the

Allow & Block list"> LEAVE EVERYTHING BLANK on this window, click OK>

you're back to Web Restrictions window, and you'll see a popup, the one

you WANT to see.Click yes, click OK > OK and close windows.

This is what one will see if one tries to connect to internet (click

the link) :

You use Explore, you find the iexplore.exe, you right-click it, you go to

Properties, to the Security Tab, and you set by user account who can do what

permissions with the file/program.

Thanks very much, let me give that a try... and yes, you're right, I actually

did say "ALL" originally but then realized I might actually like to use it as

the admin (!)

PHEW ! I was afraid you would screwed up the admin account and couldn't

log in at all.

You are welcome.
