Guest lauderdaler Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 Quoting the classic flic GungHo; ...I don't get, I don't see it..... not one iota. Well, certainly life as we know it would not be recognizable without them... yet as one who is not quite a techno boob, or techphob; but equally I am of the generation where we don't necessarily need or want to know about the labor.... just give us the baby.. To this end, I cannot understand a few things as I have just now lost my server virginity, made more unpleasant by doing the cutover from the age old peer network right about when a ghost seems to have assumed control over my machine, and naturally has spread to the other strung together stations. There is so much and at so many times, in different places that it is literally impossible to ID or isolate / shred ALL the hooks and triggers, and repeaters, or shadows, or hiddens that have went deep deep, and after much consult, many hours, a ton of wasted dollars, I either get viewed as an open book, rather an open wallet, to be told and sold anything and everything;; OR ;; As shocking as it is... I get more IT pretenders with no greater insight than I can and have sought and found on my own in books and chats. Initial ?'s begin with services and or devices, local and remote becoming compromised via infections by malicious stuff. I have seen more and more with my PC and system retooling efforts. IE: Tunneling Psudo Interfaces, msi, ini, dll and exe files, and many notepad hidden files with .exe for an extension?. also files with dual extewnsions, as in ____.dll.exe or .msi.exe? In device manager... for example, while i have one or two NIC adapters showing, when asking to see all devises, hidden ones too.... Ive seem so many.. 20 or more, all are enabled and cover UDP, TCP, IPV6, NET, PPPoE... isatap??, and perhaps the same root, as in WANMiniPort, followd by the ext above. Also, when seeking settings for screwing the security down tighter, I see features that are clearly helpful, yet they are greyed over, not accessible, as are some others that I can and do click on, only to be told I do not have access privledges, and must see my Admin... well I am the only one who would have, or could have done anything this complex, this ugly, and this far reaching. It actually restores anything I can actually try to or briefly succeed at uninstalling or deleting. Most alarming is that from GeekSquad to independent IT pros with sterling reputations, all the way up to the particular machines maker; i DID GET improved, but short of compete, and not by a tiny bit, more like half way, half assed... Ive expressed by issues so many times to so many different people, with no cemented finish in site.... I am lost, dejected, exhausted, aggrivated and truely do not know what 2 do, where to go, what to anticipate.... no one to count on for guidance or perspective... I am not a stupid man, and I cant imagine I am the ONLY dude wrestling with this./... Chime in if you can be so kind. Quote

If yes, please post back with it stated clearly. These links will help with that: http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Usenet http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/555375 - How to Ask a Question If it was just a rant, this isn't the correct venue for that. A web forum aimed at general discussion rather than a newsgroup providing peer-to-peer technical support would be a better choice. Computers just allow you to do things faster. Much like the real difference of a 150 IQ is that it allows you to screw up exactly 1.5 times as fast as the average human. Even when they are working perfectly with no bugs. Whether or not you should be doing that particular thing faster is a different question. The computer may have some ability to protect you against lacks in capabilities, but in the end, it is limited by the operator's ability to tell it what to do, and in most instances, how. Quote

I got too bored to waste any more time with the rest of your drivel. Maybe you had a question buried in there somewhere but it wasn't worth any effort to dig it out from your rambling rant. I think you should've used the moniker "LouderBawler". Quote
