Guest bobg Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 HP Desktop (1 year old) Vista Home Premium 32 bit SP1. Had AVG 7.5 for about six months (with email scan disabled). AVG offerred Version 8 and I allowed it to download and install. Big mistake!! Gave me nothing but trouble. When I tried to uninstall it, I realized it wasn't listed in Install/Uninstall. But I saw that AVG had an Uninstall as part of their program....so I used it. (My second mistake!) Now, whenever I start up.....a window appears: "AVG Anti-Virus System. Could not initialize AVG Anti-Virus kernel interface." How can I get rid of this window? It doesn't cause trouble...but I hate seeing it everytime I start the computer. As you can guess...I'm not a Guru...just a user..so please try to keep it simple...if possible. Thanks.....bobg Quote
Guest Dave M Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 I'm not an AVG user, but what I'd try is to bring up Windows Defender > click Tools > Software Explorer > Category: Startup Programs > look for Grisoft applications and highlight any found > click Disable. If you have WinPatrol installed, that could also be worth trying to find those hidden startups. -- Dave M ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dave M's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=25399 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=983702 http://forums.techarena.in Quote
Guest bobg Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Hi Dave, Followed your instructions and "Grisoft" is listed but "Not yet classified." It shows in the box but the Disable is only a shadow copy and doesn't affect it. Thanks for your suggestion. Guess I'll live with it for awhile. It doesn't really interupt that much. Just another item to click on startup. style_emoticons/ bobg "Dave M" <Dave.M.3asxbc@DoNotSpam.com> wrote in message news:Dave.M.3asxbc@DoNotSpam.com...<span style="color:blue"> > > I'm not an AVG user, but what I'd try is to bring up Windows Defender > > click Tools > Software Explorer > Category: Startup Programs > look for > Grisoft applications and highlight any found > click Disable. > > If you have WinPatrol installed, that could also be worth trying to > find those hidden startups. > > > -- > Dave M > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Dave M's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=25399 > View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=983702 > > http://forums.techarena.in > </span> Quote
Guest bobg Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Hi again. Tried your suggestion to use WinPatrol. Never heard of it. It worked like a charm. Many thanks. Now won't have to cuss everytime I startup. Have a nice day. bobg "bobg" <bganon@earthlink.net> wrote in message news:8C178576-24BF-46A5-9260-F5DAB1ADC08D@microsoft.com...<span style="color:blue"> > Hi Dave, Followed your instructions and "Grisoft" is listed but "Not yet > classified."
