Guest go-to-lady Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 This is about Trend Micro PC-Cillin Internet Security version 14.6 on my Dell Vista Home Premium SP1 computer. I bought this program with my Dell and it's good until July 2010. Has anyone had the problem of "PCCVScan has stopped working" and resolved it? I run the scan for viruses and it stops after a short while (it varies from a few minutes and longer) and displays that error message. Is Trend Micro PC-Cillin Internet Security version 14.6 an all-in-one antivirus, antispyware and firewall program? They told me I had to turn off the windows firewall. They also told me to turn off Webroot SpySweeper even though I bought it with my Dell and both were preinstalled. The problem I'm having only developed after using the computer for a year. Why would I suddenly get this error? If I remember correctly, everything was fine until I updated Vista to the SP1 version, but I'm not sure. Before I go through all of the steps as instructed in their latest email shown below my post, I'd like a few second opinions! Here is what they are now telling me to try: "This is (name deleted) from Trend Micro Consumer Support. Thank you very much for your response. It seems that the suggested solution did not resolve your issue. Please allow me to continue assisting you in this case. I understand that your PCCVScan has stopped working. I apologize for the inconvenience. Regarding your concern, this may be caused by conflicting softwares and possible viruses. Please do the following to resolve the issue: I. Uninstall any third-party software that conflicts with Trend Micro Internet Security: 'How do I remove conflicting third party software detected by the Trend Micro consumer product installer? [EN-1035905]' (http://esupport.trendmicro.com/support/vie...ntentID=1035905) II. Make sure that your computer is not infected with any virus or spyware. You can either run Housecall or System Cleaner to scan your computer. Sysclean: 'Using the Trend Micro System Cleaner [EN-125991]' (http://esupport.trendmicro.com/support/vie...91&id=EN-125991) To get rid of the virus, we need to use a special tool called the Trend Micro System Cleaner. The virus cannot be deleted on normal mode because the file is being used by your Windows Operating System. On safe mode, it can be deleted because most of the files that are being used by Windows are turned-off. Even your video drivers and sound card drivers. In order to run the Trend Micro System Cleaner in your computer, you need to download the Trend Micro System Cleaner and our latest Virus Pattern File and Spyware pattern File. They need to run together so that they can scan your computer. Please click on the link below to download the Trend Micro System Cleaner. http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/tsc/sysclean.com When you click on the link above, a window will pop-up asking you what would you like to do with the file that you are downloading, please choose the second option which is to SAVE the program in a disk. The Save As window will now pop-up, please save the file on your DESKTOP. The file name should be SYSCLEAN for Windows then click on SAVE. Now, you need to download the latest Virus Pattern. To do that, please click on the link below: 'Trend Micro' (http://www.trendmicro.com/download/consumerpattern.asp) Click on the color BLUE link to download the .ZIP (LPTXXX.ZIP) archive containing the latest virus pattern file, wherein ‘xxx’ is the pattern number. Save the file to your DESKTOP also. Next, you will also need to download the latest Spyware Pattern Ssapiptn.Da5. To do that, please click on the link below: 'Trend Micro Spyware Pattern Files' (http://www.trendmicro.com/download/spywarepattern.asp) Click on the color BLUE link to download the .ZIP (SSAPIPTNXXX.ZIP) archive containing the latest virus pattern file, wherein ‘xxx’ is the pattern number. Save the file again to your DESKTOP. When the 3 files are already on your Desktop, you need to extract the Virus Pattern File using the WINZIP program. ============= NOTE: If you do not have a WinZip program, please go to 'WinZip - The Zip File Utility for Windows - Zip/Unzip, Encrypt/Decrypt' (http://www.winzip.com/) and download the Evaluation version for WinZip on that website. You can also go to the website below to learn on how to unzip a file: 'Compressing and extracting a file using WinZip [en-112254]' (http://esupport.trendmicro.com/support/vie...entID=en-112254) ======== Extract or Unzip the Virus Pattern File on your Desktop. When you extract the Virus Pattern File (LPTXXX.ZIP) the extracted file will be LPT$VPN.XXX. When you extract the Spyware Pattern File (SSAPIPTNXXX.ZIP) the extracted file will be SSAPIPTN.DA5. Once extracted, you need to start your computer on SAFE-MODE to run the Trend Micro System Cleaner. ========= To boot your system to safe mode, please follow the steps below: Please click START, and then click SHUT DOWN. Select RESTART, and then click OK. Press F8 at the indicated time: When a screen of text appears and then disappears (the screen of text may include a memory test, lines about the BIOS, and other lines), press F8. There may be a prompt that tells you when to press F8. Or After making your selection from the boot menu, press F8. There may be a prompt that tells you when to press F8. Once on Safe Mode, go to your Desktop, look for SYSCLEAN and then double click on run the program. Then click on the SCAN button. NOTE: If you double-clicked on SYSCLEAN and you received the message, "Pattern file "LPT$VPN.XXX" is missing, Please download a copy" or "Pattern file "SSAPIPTN.DA5" is missing, Please download a copy", it means that the Virus Pattern File (LPT$VPN.XXX) , Spyware pattern file (SSAPIPTN.DA5) and the Sysclean are not on the same folder. Please make sure that the SYSCLEAN, SSAPIPTN.DA5 and LPT$VPN.XXX files are on the SAME FOLDER. If not you will be receiving that error message when you try to run sysclean. They need to be TOGETHER for the Trend Micro system cleaner to run. ==================== To make on final check if the virus is still on your computer, please do a manual scan using the Trend Micro Internet Security software. Or you can go to our free online scanner which is Housecall. Guest Robinb Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 i had trend micro same version on my vista home premium pror to sp1, I got with dell I found the same problem and yes it turns off your vista firewall. (it is suppose to do that) I just got so frustrated with it (and yes it expires 2010) that i uninstalled it and put AVG 7.5 (at that time) on it. Put back vista firewall which works very well and acutally AVG found trojans that Trend Micro did not find Now I am running AVG 8.0 with no problems My advise is to do the same. robin "go-to-lady" <guest@unknown-email.com> wrote in message news:b8ea0e97fa42d508b06d8387c077ec8c@nntp-gateway.com...<span style="color:blue"> > > This is about Trend Micro PC-Cillin Internet Security version 14.6 on my > Dell Vista Home Premium SP1 computer. Guest elton7no Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 OK, so I am not a particularly in depth computer user, but I was in the same situation as you and this is how I solved it for my computer. I had the same versionTrend Micro as you and also received my computer from Dell. Same error message. I read your posts before I did the things below. I looked to see when the last scan had been completed by me and it was 6-14-08. This was odd, because I had been on a trip for a lot of the time and had not done much with my comuter. I went to control panel to see if any software that coul conflict with the virus program had been installed since my last successful scan. Nothing since 6-14-08. I them remembered that I had downloaded some files from a friend's computer with windows XP. I remember getting a lot of error messages and wierd windows notifications. I finally got the files transferred but something still did not work properly, but I could access the files adequately. I put those files on a disk, and deleted the files in the computer and cleared my recycle bin. I rebooted and the scan worked!!!! Don't ask me why, but you might try putting your files since the last successful scan on a disk, delete the files in the computer, and clear your recycle bin and reboot and rescan to see if that helps. Needless to say, I will be keeping these files on a disk, and not putting them back on my computer. Good luck, I could feel the frustration building and was glad to get back to the norm. PS This is my first post ever. Guest Gerald309BCPCNet Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Re: PCCVScan has stopped working - Trend Micro PC-Cillin InternetSecurity version 14 Some comments .... You wrote... <<<I looked to see when the last scan had been completed by me and it was 6-14-08. This was odd, because I had been on a trip for a lot of the time and had not done much with my comuter.>>> You can check the "Scheduled Scans" section, as this can be set to automatically scan your computer anytime even while sleeping. And also..... You wrote: <<<I went to control panel to see if any software that coul conflict with the virus program had been installed since my last successful scan. Nothing since 6-14-08. >>> Installed software is not found in the Control Panel. It is found in "Add/Remove Programs" - which will not show any information about software "conflicting with your antivirus".
