Guest Mick Murphy Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 I use Avast in preference to norton; but it is your choice. Go into Safe Mode, and rescan in SM to find probs(info on how to at the bottom) ity Rescan with Spybot S & D, and norton in SM Programs that I have installed, and how to use them to remove problems. Vista’s Firewall works very well. http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html Avast Anti-Virus is Vista compatible (32bit and 64bit Versions), FREE, auto-updating, and a low resources user of your computer. And, only have 1(one) Anti-Virus installed / running on your computer at any one time.. Conflicts may occur if you have more than 1(one). http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html Spybot Search & Destroy 1.5.2 is a very good, FREE Anti-Spyware Program. Download, install, update, and immunize your System with it. Then SCAN with it. Update it, and scan your System once a fortnight. http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html SpywareBlaster 4.1 is a non-intrusive, FREE Anti-Spyware Program that runs in the background (no scanning by you!). Update it once a fortnight, and let it do its work in the background! Important re: Safe Mode If you happen to find a problem that you can’t uninstall / delete, reboot the computer, and go into Safe Mode. To get into Safe mode, tap F8 right at Power On / Startup, and use UP arrow key to get to Safe Mode, then hit ENTER. RESCAN your computer while in Safe Mode. -- Mick Murphy - Qld - Australia "hodges" wrote: > > Hello, > > yesterday i was on the net then all of a sudden i will get 2 or more > pop ups every now and again so i did a windows defender check/norton 360 > and spybot check anyway i found the trojan it was a .dLL it was removed > but the pop up spam keeps coming and no matter how many scans i do it > cant find the problem please help.. > > Thanks. > > > -- > hodges > Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com > > Quote

Sorry but there are so many variations of these damned nuisance things that your description does not give many clues, and nobody here will want to take a "Guess" and advise you to do something that might damage your system. With PE, you go to Menu/View/Show lower pane/Show all DLL(s), which shows all hidden processes hosted by a running process in the upper pane. You can right-click a process in the upper pane and go to Properties that will give you more information about a running process, and you can do the same in the lower pane too. <http://www.windowsecurity.com/articles/Hidden_Backdoors_Trojan_Horses_and_Rootkit_Tools_in_a_Windows_Environment.html> http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/default.aspx Quote
Guest Robinb Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 add this to your list Superantispyware at http://superantispyware.com It has saved my life over and over. It works on xp and vista and you can get the free version or the pro the Pro gives you real time protection and allows you schedule scans the Free version you have to run manually and doesn't give you real time protection except watch over your home page in ie. robin "Mick Murphy" <MickMurphy@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:0C7C62A3-F027-4051-94B4-53E3C7D226D8@microsoft.com... >I use Avast in preference to norton; but it is your choice. > Go into Safe Mode, and rescan in SM to find probs(info on how to at the > bottom) ity > Rescan with Spybot S & D, and norton in SM > > Programs that I have installed, and how to use them to remove problems. > > Vista's Firewall works very well. > > http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html > > Avast Anti-Virus is Vista compatible (32bit and 64bit Versions), FREE, > auto-updating, and a low resources user of your computer. > And, only have 1(one) Anti-Virus installed / running on your computer at > any > one time.. > Conflicts may occur if you have more than 1(one). > > http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html > > Spybot Search & Destroy 1.5.2 is a very good, FREE Anti-Spyware Program. > Download, install, update, and immunize your System with it. > Then SCAN with it. > Update it, and scan your System once a fortnight. > > http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html > > SpywareBlaster 4.1 is a non-intrusive, FREE Anti-Spyware Program that runs > in the background (no scanning by you!). > Update it once a fortnight, and let it do its work in the background! > > Important re: Safe Mode > If you happen to find a problem that you can't uninstall / delete, reboot > the computer, and go into Safe Mode. > To get into Safe mode, tap F8 right at Power On / Startup, and use UP > arrow > key to get to Safe Mode, then hit ENTER. > RESCAN your computer while in Safe Mode. > > -- > Mick Murphy - Qld - Australia > > > "hodges" wrote: > >> >> Hello, >> >> yesterday i was on the net then all of a sudden i will get 2 or more >> pop ups every now and again so i did a windows defender check/norton 360 >> and spybot check anyway i found the trojan it was a .dLL it was removed >> but the pop up spam keeps coming and no matter how many scans i do it >> cant find the problem please help.. >> >> Thanks. >> >> >> -- >> hodges >> Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com >> >> Quote
