Guest Howard Kaikow Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Is Windows Defender supposed to be disabled if one has, say, NIS or KIS installed? If so, how does one disable Windows Defender? Or, is it necessary only to change certain settings? Quote
Guest DL Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Why do you wish to disable it? Provided any scheduled scanning doesn't coincide with your AV scanning it should be fine. NIS 2008 install must have done that. I NEVER schedule AV scans. Only run manually. Quote

Using multiple anti-spywares simultaneously is a good idea, since no single one has a sufficient detection rate. If you have enough system resources, I recommend you reenable it. Charlie42 Quote
Guest Milo Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 If for unknown reason Windows Defender is disabled, ( possible NIS ) you better reach support for that then - if you're in the US/CANADA contact this 886 727 2338 ( Microsoft PCSafety Group - Free Support ) "Howard Kaikow" <kaikow@standards.com> wrote in message news:uXZj6Is2IHA.1240@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > Is Windows Defender supposed to be disabled if one has, say, NIS or KIS > installed? > > If so, how does one disable Windows Defender? > Or, is it necessary only to change certain settings? > > Quote

In the registry, get rid of all visible references to Symantec and Norton. 3. Enable Windows Defender. 4. Install KIS. But first, I have to read the KIS manual, etc. Quote
