Guest surfer100 Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 For the last several months I've been getting "won't run" error windows for HP's My Display software, for Vueprint graphics program, and for another program. I I was getting the same error message for each... A window would pop up and say "program X won't run" but DID NOT SAY that it was a conflict with Vista's Data Execution Program. I found out ultimately by lots of repeated googling. I turned Data Execution Prevention to OFF, execept for essential windows services by going to control panel, click on system, click on system protection, click advanced tab, click settings, click data execution prevention tab, and finally click on "turn on DEP for essential Windows programs..." You can also turn on DEP except for for programs that you add to an exceptions list , but I found this DID NOT work for some progams I wanted to run, so I've left DEP on ONLY for windows services. I suspect that some one of the many vista security updates changed the DEP settings, or updated the DEP program and changed its default settings. But the error messages then generated don't tell you what the problem is! Anyway, I've turned it off and everything is back working again. Quote
