Guest Steve Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 SPYDOCTOR is popular and will do a free scan but will charge you to remove the virus. I had the problem for two weeks. I've read Norton doesn't work and people are wasting money on other similar products which don't do the job. Sometimes it's best to look closer to home i.e Microsoft. Try http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/E...2/Antivirus2008 for background info and then click on the link for the download options. I couldn't get Windows defender to install but I tried the WINDOWS MALICIOUS SOFTWARE REMOVAL TOOL and 'touch-wood' it seems to have helped. I still have the annoying message on the screensaver but the annoying pop-up has stopped. Let me know if it helps. Guest Mick Murphy Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Richard, thank you very much for that link for Malwarebytes. That is a ripper! An example: I was out doing a job today in XP In Safe Mode: Spybot Search & Destroy: 300 odd, assorted things, could not delete 8 AVG(customers choice): Heaps in that DOS interface it uses now in SM with AVG 8.0 THEN Malwarebytes: 211 Trojans, Adware, etc (and it ran after Spybot S & D and AVG) It's good gear. Yes, there is a commercial version but you don't need to buy MBAM to use it. As for getting rid of XP Antivirus 2009: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/malware-re...-antivirus-2009 These may work for you and all may be well. However, in many cases the computer will also be infected with Zlob and/or Vundo trojans and protected by a rootkit. These machines are extremely difficult to clean. If your machine is one of these cases, either get guided help at one of the specialty forums below OR back up your data and do a clean install of Windows. It is your choice. If you are unsure how to back up your data or how to do a clean install, you can take your machine to a local computer professional. I don't recommend using BigComputerStore/GeekSquad types of places. Guest Doug Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 Having had a brush with Antivirus 2009 earlier today when pop-ups appeared and my browser would not close via the top-right [X] nor via the Task Bar and I resorted to killing it using CTRL-ALT-DEL to fire up the Task Manager, I have now successfully downloaded and run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware which I can now confirm is available from the page and download link indicated in my earlier posting (below) and that it is free for non commercial use. A link on the user interface points to Malwarebytes Online Store where a "Protection Module" can be purchased for 17.45 pounds sterling. Happily an initial Quick Scan (Time elapsed: 2 minutes, 28 seconds) and a subsequent Full Scan (Time elapsed: 58 minutes, 27 seconds) both showed zero infections. I append the second scan log between quote lines. I am using Vista Home Premium 32bit and a conventional dual core PC. Guest Sturij Dhiwar Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Solution from Search-and-destroy. If you own a computer, you must have antispyware to keep it running at its best. The problem is choosing a scan that works. I have tried many different types of scans in the past and then I ran across Search-and-destroy Antispyware. I have to say that the antispyware solution from Search-and-destroy is the best that I have used to date. It gets the job done and keeps my computer working like new. If you are interested in seeing for yourself just how good this antispyware works you can click on http://www.Search-and-destroy.com/antispyware.html to learn more. I’m sure it would be worth your time to check it out. Quote
