SPYDOCTOR is popular and will do a free scan but will charge you to remove

the virus. I had the problem for two weeks. I've read Norton doesn't work and

people are wasting money on other similar products which don't do the job.

Sometimes it's best to look closer to home i.e Microsoft. Try

http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/E...2/Antivirus2008

for background info and then click on the link for the download options. I

couldn't get Windows defender to install but I tried the WINDOWS MALICIOUS

SOFTWARE REMOVAL TOOL and 'touch-wood' it seems to have helped. I still have

the annoying message on the screensaver but the annoying pop-up has stopped.

Let me know if it helps.

Richard, thank you very much for that link for Malwarebytes.

That is a ripper!

An example: I was out doing a job today in XP

In Safe Mode:

Spybot Search & Destroy: 300 odd, assorted things, could not delete 8

AVG(customers choice): Heaps in that DOS interface it uses now in SM with

AVG 8.0

THEN Malwarebytes: 211 Trojans, Adware, etc (and it ran after Spybot S & D

and AVG)

It's good gear.

Once again, thanks.

You must be a Pommie, drinking pints!

Nah, you drink plonk.

Cheap and nasty.

And once again, you are wrong; it is spam.

Seing as I use the web interface, you can reply here as much as you like.

I can't be bothered coming back to here, and I don't get notifications of

Read how to use the program.

At the end of the scan, it gives you the option to remove them, lol.

It is very good.

Try reading it.

After more thought, I probably should have known about that

program since it's been mentioned here and in the other vista groups

so often.

I probably was too busy trying to find someone

to be rude to to notice.

Richard you said you used a FREE version but when I went to site it showed a

one time fee of $24.95. It had a Rohue free version is this what you used.

I keep getting

a pop up about 2009 antivirus. Will this remove this 2009 virus popup also?

I don't know where you went but Malwarebytes (www.malwarebytes.org) is free.

Yes, there is a commercial version but you don't need to buy MBAM to use

it.

As for getting rid of XP Antivirus 2009:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/malware-re...-antivirus-2009

These may work for you and all may be well. However, in many cases the

computer will also be infected with Zlob and/or Vundo trojans and protected

by a rootkit. These machines are extremely difficult to clean.

If your machine is one of these cases, either get guided help at one of the

specialty forums below OR back up your data and do a clean install of

Windows. It is your choice. If you are unsure how to back up your data or

how to do a clean install, you can take your machine to a local computer

professional. I don't recommend using BigComputerStore/GeekSquad types of

places.

The site says:

"Activating the full version unlocks realtime protection, scheduled

scanning, and scheduled updating. It is a one time fee of $24.95."

then nearly half way down

Tools Needed for this fix:

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Having had a brush with Antivirus 2009 earlier today when pop-ups appeared

and my browser would not close via the top-right [X] nor via the Task Bar

and I resorted to killing it using CTRL-ALT-DEL to fire up the Task Manager,

I have now successfully downloaded and run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware which

I can now confirm is available from the page and download link indicated in

my earlier posting (below) and that it is free for non commercial use. A

link on the user interface points to Malwarebytes Online Store where a

"Protection Module" can be purchased for 17.45 pounds sterling.

Happily an initial Quick Scan (Time elapsed: 2 minutes, 28 seconds) and a

subsequent Full Scan (Time elapsed: 58 minutes, 27 seconds) both showed zero

infections. I append the second scan log between quote lines.

I am using Vista Home Premium 32bit and a conventional dual core PC. Doug.

My first "smart scan" showed nothing. I ran a full scan yesterday and

it, amusingly, found my on-line poker program to be malware... Hmmmmmmmm

On the contrary, these are both perfectly legitimate and very helpful

sites, and have been hignly recommended by many knowledgeable

The site you recommend, on the other hand, looks rather suspicious, at

Do not mix up anti-virus software and anti-spyware software. They look for

different things.

Solution from Search-and-destroy.

If you own a computer, you must have antispyware to keep it running at its best. The problem is choosing a scan that works. I have tried many different types of scans in the past and then I ran across Search-and-destroy Antispyware. I have to say that the antispyware solution from Search-and-destroy is the best that I have used to date. It gets the job done and keeps my computer working like new. If you are interested in seeing for yourself just how good this antispyware works you can click on http://www.Search-and-destroy.com/antispyware.html to learn more. I’m sure it would be worth your time to check it out.
