Guest ChiWhiteSox Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 I got a windows vista with an existing admin account - OwnerPC my little sister created a user account (Mickey) and assigned a password in it. Now everytime i try to install something or run windows updates, it prompts the user password for Mickey (Enter user password for Mickey) But after typing the correct password, it says, user doesnt have any access or isnt authorized for this kind of operation, only enter an administrator password for this. But there isnt any administrator password for it though any help will be highly appreciated! thanks! Quote
Guest Spaceman Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Can you login to OwnerPC without a password? If so, Login and set a password. Start Control Panel User Accounts and Family Settings User Accounts Click on OwnerPC and then click Change your password Fill all the spots in and then click Change Password. While you are there click on Mickey and make sure Mickey is a standard user unless you do want to allow Mickey (your sisters account) to install software, if so make sure Mickey is an administrator. I hope this helps ya. -- James M Driscoll Jr MCTS (Vista) Spaceman "ChiWhiteSox" <ChiWhiteSox@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:55A8C113-5D6F-4E6C-A56C-B1713002A8E7@microsoft.com... >I got a windows vista with an existing admin account - OwnerPC > > my little sister created a user account (Mickey) and > assigned a password in it. > > Now everytime i try to install something or run windows > updates, it prompts the user password for Mickey (Enter user password > for Mickey) > > > But after typing the correct password, it says, user doesnt > have any access or isnt authorized for this kind of operation, only > enter an administrator password for this. > > But there isnt any administrator password for it though > > any help will be highly appreciated! > > thanks! Quote
Guest ChiWhiteSox Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 i tried to logoff / switch user, but the only user i see is the OwnerPC one, i dont see 'Mickey' (really strange) but whenever i go to the User Accounts, manage users / set password... (all the options under User Accounts) always pops up a window saying : Enter Password for Mickey or any administrator Password. Then after correctly typing the password for Mickey , it says, this user is not authorized to do so and so.... I think that OwnerPc became a normal user? any other means to do a backdoor on user accounts or delete that 'Mickey' account? thanks! You're the second person that has posted this week that doesn't seem to have a Admin account on the machine, as the other user shot itself in the foot by making its only Admin account a Standard user account. Guest Spaceman Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 It sounds like the name was just changed instead of a new account. Try using your old password for OwnerPc in the pop up that asks for Mickey's password. Guest ChiWhiteSox Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 hmmm, not sure about that, when i click on start->swtich user, i only see OwnerPC account in there. And another thing, there is no password setup for OwnerPC. I tried entering a blank password for Mickey, it doesnt accept it.
