good reg file to restore desktop?

Hi All,

I do not have a virus. I need help cleaning up after one.

Really, I don't have a virus.

A virus installed several registry settings that won't let

me configure my desktop, especially my wallpaper.

Is there a good .reg file out there that will restore all

my desktop settings back to their original defaults?

Many thanks,

-T

on another machine, the wallpaper tab is there, but the

names of the various wallpapers and the browse tab

are grayed out.

Do you see that deliberate attempt to steer you in the wrong direction. That

David troll would rather you not fix your system then to have you download

anything from me. Use my Desktop Reset tool. Download it here

David,

I looked at his code in Linux to make sure I was protected.

It looks legitimate. It also looks like he put a bit of

effort into it too. Why do you think his stuff is illegitimate?

As I indicated, the fake MVP did indeed follow.

What you experienced are System and User policies that malware will use to limit you

capability.

Kelly's Corner has many fixes and they are found here...

Search for "Greyed Out" on the following page.

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

The following is one.

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits...ualstylefix.reg

These are fixes and they come from a "trusted" source.

There is nothing wrong with my fix tools as you have seen for yourself.

David just does not like me. He worked real hard a few years ago to shutdown

my website. His many attempts failed and he is not over it yet. And you keep

referring to me as he and his, well I am female. You want to know the truth

about me and my files then read my feedback and see what others have said

For many reasons that include, but is not limited to...

He is NOT a Microsoft MVP yet he puports to be one.

He has plagiarized the code from legitimate sources so he hasn't put any effort into them

other then reming the author's attributes and replaing is with his.

One of his plagiarized codes will block access to legitimate anti amwlare sites and to

sites from MVPs such as...

127.0.0.1 www.it-mate.co.uk

127.0.0.1 it-mate.co.uk

127.0.0.1 mysteryfcm.co.uk

127.0.0.1 www.internetinspiration.co.uk

127.0.0.1 www.mvps.org

127.0.0.1 bughunter.it-mate.co.uk

127.0.0.1 www.bughunter.it-mate.co.uk

127.0.0.1 www.siri.geekstogo.com

127.0.0.1 siri.geekstogo.com

127.0.0.1 siri.urz.free.fr

127.0.0.1 www.siri.urz.free.fr

127.0.0.1 noahdfear.geekstogo.com

This is done in a plagiarized version of the MVP Hosts file

Now he'll claim and stomp his feet stating he is a MS MVP yet through tyhe hosts file his

plagiarized utility installs he blocks access to www.mvps.org

He and his are both the masculine and the neuter gender in

English -- he is using the language correctly. The use of

"he/she" or "he/she/it"n (don't say this one too fast),

although "politically correct", it is grammatically

incorrect. But, if he knows you are a woman, it would be

a bit more polite not to refer to you in the neuter gender.

Do you have a certificate number or some other documentation

you can use to prove you are a MVP? When re-using code

from others, did you remember to reference (footnote) it?

I remember in college that I could write an entire paper

and only use about fifty of my own word by referencing

(footnoting) other people's work. It ain't plagiarizing

if you reference it!

I would settle for the secret password, or the secret handshake,

or the combination to the padlock on the clubhouse door. Maybe

even a good hi-res digital photo of that snazzy MVP lapel pin.

....but I don't see these as forthcoming.

Seriously, good things can come from bad sources. Why take

the chance, I wouldn't trust pcbutts based solely on its behaviour

in the newsgroups.

David does not know me, nobody here does. The problem is he thinks he does

and because of that it has cost him a lot of grief, anger, and

embarrassment. The problem is they want to know me they would give anything

to find out my real identity so I will not post the link to my MS MVP

profile. My profile has my real info on it. I know all the evil things they

(David and his troll buddies) or tried to do to the person who they think I

am, and I can prove it, because I have been in contact with people

investigation the threats made to him. I know for a fact that one was

prosecuted and one decided it was not worth it and stopped what he was

doing. I was a witness at the hearing. At any rate what I am trying to say

is that David is not the nice guy you all think he is in these NG's.

Unfortunately "his" claim to being a woman is part of his faux personna. It is part of

his veil of lies to cover his tracks.

Even the female picture on his Blogger site is stolen from somewhre else to falsely

portray him as a woman.

He doesn't ever reference the real authors. He replaces their names with

PCBUTTS1@PCBUTTS1.Com and that's plagiarism.

He has plagiarized whole code which includes, but is not limited to...

MS MVP Kelly Theriot -- VBS script from Kelly's Korner

MS MVP Noahdfear -- SmitRem

MS MVP Winhelp2002 -- MVP Hosts File

Robert A. Cooper -- NailFix utility (co-authord by Miekiemoes and Swandog46)

Stuart Saunders -- RogueFix

Andrew Aronoff -- Silent Runners

Lets list the things you've done in Usenet that David has not done:

PCBUTTS has done the following in Usenet - that none of the rest of us

have done:

1) Posted links to Pornographic material on his pcbutts1.com website

that he's personally created and bragged about and bragged about in

these groups.

2) Posted links to Pornographic material on his Leythos website that

he's personally created and bragged about in these groups.

3) Been exposed as pirating code from other people's apps.

4) Included copyrighted code in his applications which he is not the

copyright holder.

5) Impersonated other members of the community and done so in a bad

manner

6) Impersonated unknowns to show fake support for PCBUTTS1

7) Switched Identities from Male to Female

8) Been exposed with pirated code after fake entries were added to code

of others files - the code appeared in PCBUTTS's code shortly after.

9) Used very foul language in Usenet posts

10) Stalked members of the community in his signature in every post for

a period of time

11) Created a website using a community members name to post hate filled

and pornographic materials and then direct others to it

12) Exposed unknowing people to pornography on his pcbutts1.com website.

13) Improperly hosted vendors apps on his pcbutts1.com website without

being an authorized mirror and without following the vendors rules for

hosting the applications.

14) Regularly posted links to exe files on his pcbutts1.com website

without giving the author/vendor credit for the work - taking credit for

the resolution himself.

15) Puts entries into your HOST file that BLOCK ACCESS TO REPUTABLE

ANTI-MALWARE SITES WITHOUT TELLING YOU.

16) Has lost any respect from the community because of his actions and

many more that have not been listed.

No other member of the community has done all of those things, only

PCBUTTS has done all of those things......

Hi Richard,

Linux's "Hosts" file is almost a spitting image of Windows

hosts file, which is were Windows probably got the idea.

UNIX having done TCP/IP networking before DOS was even a

twinkle in Uncle Bill's eye.

So far, I am the only one that I know of with a Linux

workstation -- I actually have two. Linux, although

vastly technically superior, can not compete with

Windows base of available software. Well, software

that runs on XP. (Big mistake dissing the installed base

with Vista.)

Anyway, I have the best of both worlds,

with several Vvirtual machines running Windows: XP Pro,

Vista Ultimate, Bart PE, and ReactOS (very buggy).

With a virtual machine, I can backup "every" bit of

Windows. Linux sees Windows as a large file and with

Linux you can back "everything" up. No files locks

or system files to contend with. It takes about 10

to restore a Windows virtual machine. It takes

about two hour to restore the whole partition.

(I have had to do that twice last month. It sucks.

I got 100% of everything back. Yipee! But, it still

sucks.)

As soon as I test the winhelp file out, I will

migrate it into my various Windows Virtual machines.

Then roll it out at my customer sites.

Many thanks,

-T

Actually, the etc/hosts file is the same in all operating systems as it is a construct of

the TCP/IP protocol which is independent of the OS.

Before there were DNS servers or in a situation where there are no DNS servers one would

place the name and IP address of hosts in the etc/hosts table. Then the OS would resolve

the name to the IP address so one would not have to memorize the IP address of a given

host.

Today the reason the etc/hosts table is used is not for name resolution it is used for

redirection to IP diagniostic responder which is 127.0.0.1. This redirection is used to

avoid advertisers and malicious hosts. Most notable are the MVP Hosts file (mentioned

already in this thread) and the HP Hosts file. http://hosts-file.net/

oooh! ...two responses. It's soooo good not having OE's Preview pane

switched on - I get to killfile you without bothering to see what you've

said :-) ...<kerrplunk> !
