Antivirus 2009

I downloaded AV2009, thinking it was an upgrade to what I had. It is not

activated, but seems to be interacting with IE to block me from many .mil

sites. I have looked in the ctr p no sign of it in add/remove, no sign of an

AV folder in program files.

Only download software you can validate as uncompromised - in the case

of non-vendor site you have no guarantee that the files are unmodified

or uncompromised. Anyone providing a link to a non-vendors site with a

direct download should not be trusted, the vendors sites are the safest

place to download their application.

No person of sound mind would download files from a hack site that

requires a password to access the unknown files when they are available

directly from the vendors.

Always remember - only download files from Trusted Sites.

Please explain why you didn't direct the original poster, VJS, to cnet/Download.com, which is

advertised as the download site on the Malwarebytes web site http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Surely if the staff at Malwarebytes deem it satisfactory, that will be better than going through a

third party? I agree that VJS should try the facility, but I'd recommend he go here:-

I would be more trusting of bleepingcomputer than download any day. cNet

is becoming more and more ad-driven every day. Using Firefox with the

NoScript and Ad-Block Plus extensions installed plus using the mvps hosts

file, I couldn't download anything from download.com unless I change some

of the settings (like that's gonna happen).

Why not accept that there are "Peers" that are part of the trusted

community that are reliable and provide MORE information that

download.com and don't spam you with ads for other cleaning products.

Visit download.com, search for malware removal tools - see how many

other tools they present you with and not all are free.

How much advise does download.com give you about using MBAM, how many

screen shots, how much explanation?

Enough with this Malwarebytes garbage. If you've got something to say about

that forum then do it there, not here. And please stop cross-posting in the

MalwareBytes is a commercial enterprise. Many people use download.com They

want their product out there. I'm sure most folks do not have a problem

using download.com. I remember when they had a free service that would

scan your computer and tell you what software needed updating abd then

would get the updates for you. Things have come a long way.

Dave, first, fix your Usenet client, it needs to properly delimit lines

at 7X characters.

Now, to address your trolling - I don't advocate that you listen to me

about the quality or reputation of ANY website, you should be smart

enough to judge them on your own, after YOUR OWN research.

I list sites that I trust, suggest downloads from them because "I" trust

them, and it's a simple thing - check BEFORE YOU DOWNLOAD.

Personally, I don't trust download.com - too many ads and crap to avoid.

Hello VJS,

The malware "Antivirus 2009" can be in different forms and mix of crudware. You most likely have to run a series of tools to remove all of it and it's companions.

A few preliminaries, plus I would urge you to get guided assitance at one of the ant-malware forums noted below.

Use Windows' Disk Cleanup to delete all temporary files.

Download & save Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from

http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe or

http://malwarebytes.gt500.org/mbam.jsp

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then click Finish.

If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.

Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL Scan, then click Scan.

The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.

When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.

Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)

The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.

Copy & Paste the entire report in a new reply as soon as it has finished.

Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.

click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.

If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

MBAM is an excellent first-line program to use and keep. However, you do need to run other tools to insure all crudware is gone.

Thank you for your further reply, Leythos. I have changed from 76 to 70 characters - is that what

you meant by 7X?

I note all that you have said. I will pass on your comments to the owners of Malwarebytes regarding

Download.com - perhaps they will change their choice on their home web site! As you haven't actually

answered my question, though, I will assume that, like everyone else, you just hope and pray that

BleepingComputer.com is not a site in which bad guys are operating! <grin>

C/Net distributes fraudware.

C/Net distributes fraudware.

That is a very forthright statement!

May we all assume that you have evidence to this effect and that you have reported C/Net to the

appropriate authorities?

Ignore any posts made by the Stalker Leythos, he's still in love with me.

He started stalking me after I spurned his advances towards me.

He said he would stop Stalking me If I stopped mentioning his name.

As you can see that does not work. He is a sick obsessive STALKER.

You are not going to goad me into your Troll.

I and others have consistently given correct information and you fail to listen (well

read, comprehend and follow) and re-hash it over and over. I am NOT going to provide you

with information you will just ignore.
