Guest Spectre Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 I did something stupid. I wasn't paying attention and got the wimad virus. I had the useless bitdefender AV software and it did NOTHTING!! I contacted them and they told me to delete all this crap which I did and it still couldn't find/remove the virus. If anything it only made things worse!! There solution to that was to stop answering my emails. So I went out and bought Kaspersky AV software. The problem now is I can't uninstall bitdefender, windows keeps saying the windows installer won't activate or some such nonsense. I've tried it in safe mode but get the same message. So I tried to force the Kaspersky software in and it won't install due to the same reasons. If I could get bitdefender out and Kaspersky in I feel I could solve my problems but I have no idea how to get the windows installer working. Also I now cannot get online because internet explorer won't open. Someone please help me. Quote

Guest Spectre Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Tried there support they said in order for there AV software to work it has to go online and update itself when you install it. The reason I bought it was because the box said it could fix an infected computer. They just offered me my money back. I guess buying a external hard drive and transfering all the important stuff onto it is one option... an expensive option! "S. You can find a link to it on my site(see below). Run the tool and get all definition files for all 4 tools(do not scan the system yet). Then copy the whole folder to a USB stick, put it in your computer, and scan/fix all problems found. Guest PA Bear [MS MVP] Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 You'll have to resolve your infection(s) before you'll be able to uninstall BitDefender [1] and install Kaspersky. Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log to an appropriate forum. Checking for/Help with Hijackware http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=5878 http://wiki.castlecops.com/Malware_Removal...n:_Introduction http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/data/prevention.htm http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/tshoot.html http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Malware_Defence.htm http://defendingyourmachine2.blogspot.com/ http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2....emoving_Malware When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2 (http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use (in conjuction with some other utilities). HijackThis will NOT fix anything on its own, but it will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with assistance from an expert. Post your log to http://spywarehammer.com/simplemachinesfor....php?board=10.0, http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22, http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30, or another appropriate forum for review by an expert in such matters, not here. If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA or Geek Squad) computer repair shop. ========== [1] http://kb.bitdefender.com/KB333-en--How-to...itDefender.html -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ Spectre wrote:<span style="color:blue"> > I did something stupid. Guest Spectre Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 They told me to delete certain files and folders. Which like I said only made things worse. I was then supposed to re-scan everything and viola! But it didn't work there lousy software didn't find any viruses. I get my email from the web I didn't dare open outlook express. I borrowed a family members computer and I can link the two but still don't really know how to fix the problems. I only use explorer I don't care for that freeware/shareware whatever stuff. I'm at work now so I'll try that scanning tool when I get home. Thanks "Max Wachtel" wrote: <span style="color:blue"> > On Mon, 22 Sep 2008 03:09:00 -0400, Spectre > <Spectre@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: > > Reply Inline > <span style="color:green"> > > I did something stupid.
