Guest Milo Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Alright usually if it went through a scan it should state the location of the file and the action taken? is it passed, clean, delete or quarantined? If it mention Downloader its not a Virus ( its just the regular malware - trojan downloader ). no for such instance better your optional security application for 3rd opinion go to www.safety.live.com ( safety scan ) or www.trendsecure.com ( Housecall ) those are free online scanners you can use without much of installation Please do give us a feedback on its outcome Hope this can give us further view of your concern. Guest FromTheRafters Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 What is the exact path and name of the file, and the exact name of the malware it is detected as. What is the exact wording of the Anti Virus' "can't remove" message. It may be possible that it is in the system restore store (restore points) and you only need to flush it out (or just ignore it until it goes away on its own). A downloader trojan detection often means that the program poses a potential risk - not that you are actively infected with some malware. The program may reside in an area where it poses no risk at the moment - and yet still be detected (rightfully) as a threat. With so little to go on, all you will get are guesses or general malware removal tips. Guest PA Bear [MS MVP] Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827315 Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log to an appropriate forum. Checking for/Help with Hijackware http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=5878 http://wiki.castlecops.com/Malware_Removal...n:_Introduction http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/data/prevention.htm http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/tshoot.html http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Malware_Defence.htm http://defendingyourmachine2.blogspot.com/ http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2....emoving_Malware When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2 (http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use (in conjunction with some other utilities). HijackThis will NOT fix anything on its own, but it will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with assistance from an expert. Post your log to http://spywarehammer.com/simplemachinesfor....php?board=10.0, http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22, http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30, or another appropriate forum for review by an expert in such matters, not here. If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA or Geek Squad) computer repair shop. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ clarky clarke wrote:<span style="color:blue"> > Hi My service provider is BT and they use Norton Anti Virus ,when I run a > full scan I am warned of a high risk virus called Downldr that they can't > remove .When I use Windows Explorer to locate the file it reports no files > found. How do I remove this virus? </span> Quote
