Guest c Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 I'm attempting to RD to my Vista machine from XP machine, but the XP one is not on same domain. Therefore, I'm unable to "add user" from the Vista RD settings. There are both on the same network and can ping each other. Do both machines need to be on same domain? If so, then I'd rather revert to VNC or something similar where if I can ping the damned IP, I can login with user/pwd. frustrated in Denver. Quote
Guest Josh Phillips Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 they don't' need to be in the same domain, but you do need to enable remote desktop on the Vista machine. This will open the proper firewall ports (3389) needed to RDP. Right click on my computer select remote settings and enable remote desktop. Then ensure you are getting to the right box by testing access via the ip address first. hope this helps -- Thanks, Josh Phillips http://windowsconnected.com http://twitter.com/JoshPhillips "c" <barneytoe@gmail.com> wrote in message news:19410120-9b71-40f0-963d-3b3856ffeec2@40g2000prx.googlegroups.com...<span style="color:blue"> > I'm attempting to RD to my Vista machine from XP machine, but the XP > one is not on same domain. ALready enabled and added exceptions to Vista Firewall but I think I've just determine that my customer's firewall is blocking ports that RD needs. Will work with them. c Quote

Please tell us the version of the application you are asking about, your OS, Service Pack level and the FULL contents of any error message(s) Quote
