I cannot send any emails from my msn account. If I do it coming up with the

following message:

"To continue sending your message, please solve the puzzle. (Sorry for the

inconvenience--these puzzles help us stop spammers"

and asking me to confirm my email account. Is this genuine, or something to

trick me into revealing my email account details? Thanks

Julia,

I haven't seen this. Please post more details about exactly how you are

accessing your MSN mail. You could be using MSN Explorer E-Mail Client,

Outlook Express, Outlook Connector or the Hotmail Web site. There are

probably other methods I haven't thought of. Also what kind of MSN account

is this? Do you pay to use it, or is it free?

Julia..from your description it looks a verification from MSn

<qp>

Why do I have to match characters in a picture?

Match the characters in the picture

You must type the numbers and letters you see in a picture to confirm that a person, rather than an automated program, is trying to

access the page. This requirement helps prevent automated programs from misusing the Windows Live ID service. In some instances you

might mistakenly type an incorrect character. When this happens you will be asked to type a new set of characters.

Look at the numbers and letters in the picture, and then type them in the box below the picture.

</qp>

Until you provide more details on when it appears, the validity can't be fully determined.

Can you access your account at account.live.com without seeing the prompt to enter a set of matching characters ?

Does it occur when you logon to mail.live.com or hotmail.live.com when you use Internet Explorer ?

Please provide more information for our understanding to ensure a response with a more helpful direction.

Thanks,

This is the exact message that comes up in a yellow box when I try and send

an email

To continue sending your message, please solve the puzzle. (Sorry for the

inconvenience--these puzzles help us stop spammers.)confirm your e-mail

account

I do not pay for the msn account and I usually access it via MSN messenger

or I just go to a MSN login and type in my email address and password

Does that help?

Clarify, please...

What do you mean by, "go to a MSN login"?

Is that using Internet Explorer or FireFox or some other Internet Browser

(surfing the internet) to get to this page:

http://login.live.com/login.srf?wa=wsignin...%2Fdefault.aspx

Or something similar?

Or perhaps you are using the MSN browser?

The fact that someone wants you to confirm your e-mail account sounds

suspicious to me. Also, some of what I see using google to research this

Looks odd to me.

Thanks. The URL that you've provided shows that others have experienced this

message, but because it's not in English I can't see whether the reply is

reassuring or concerning. Did you find anything about this message that's in

English? Julia

I have found this:

Which is further evidence that I am ot alone with this issue! Interesting

that it was also posted recently. The answer is reassuring, but should I be

rassured by it?

What I did was put "your message, please solve the puzzle" into my

Google search bar and found your posts, some similar to yours, and

most responses were that it is a normal thing. I disagree only because

I see no reason for any e-mail particulars being confirmed.

The CAPTCHA thing is enough to prove it is not an automated send,

so that should be all there is to it.

The 'other language' post interested me mostly because it appeared

to me to be an image source site someone in this group would want

to spend some time investigating.

I found that too, but there is no mention of "confirm your account" or

such. Why would my account service need me to confirm that which

they already know - or if they don't know it, how could they confirm

my answer was correct?

By the way, my search criteria included the quotes so that the string

would be searched for instead of just those words near each other.

I would expect that string to be plastered all over search results if it

was legitimate.

Sorry I don't have a definitive answer for you.

Thanks

I have a theory. The actual message that appears is:

To continue sending your message, please solve the puzzle. (Sorry for the

inconvenience--these puzzles help us stop spammers.)confirm your e-mail

account

You can't see it in this post, but "confirm your email account" is a

hyperlink to:

http://bl113w.blu113.mail.live.com/mail/Hiplight.aspx?n=[numeric]

(I haven't included the numeric)

I wonder if this is a hyperlink to the CAPTCHA, rather than genuinely asking

for the account details to be confirmed? What do you think?

Thanks all for help with this - much appreciated. In the end with your

support I came to the conclusion that this was genuine, activated and

completed the CAPTCHA, and all now seems well. If anybody from Microsoft is

reading, you may want to package this security feature a little more

carefully in future, as clearly from web research it confused / concerned a

number of people, albeit that I can see that it was well-intentioned. Thanks

again all - Julia
