Hello John Eddy.

Our paths have not crossed before and I do not intend to argue with you.

As I said elsewhere, Robear Dyer LIED - I have never been banned by

any ISP - ever !

I know that, He knows that .............. and so does Robear Dyer!

I suggest you ask your pals at Annexcafe User2User just how hard I've

$10 says it was BD using another email alias, John. He's gone through a

good dozen or so in the last 5 years (after being dumped by several ISPs for

abuse).

You are still very much missed. Hope your house ain't leakin' too much.

Oh, no, I know who it was, and I'm relatively sure he isn't involved

Wrong! But ........... now I know - that you do know! Thank you.

And Robear, remember, God knows too - that Dyer IS a Lier!

I have used BoaterDave, ~BD~, Imbeady2 and Beady for sure (really trying

to hide, eh!) and on one occasion used TechD. The latter was quite

deliberately selected to be similar to TechB (aka Kerry Brown) to draw

reaction on Annexcafe User2User - which it most certainly did! Oh yes,

I've used John Doe too!

I have NEVER been "dumped" (banned) by ANY ISP

What Tom said (although I would have just replied 'Yes.')

I was responsible for the microsoft.public and microsoft.private

hierarchies.

Thank you for your reply, John (a simple 'Yes' would not have meant

anything to me, so thanks to Tom on this occasion)

So, help me understand what changed (please). Were you sacked or did you

resign? Were you an employee of Microsoft or a volunteer?

Most importantly, why did Microsoft allow their 'Communities' to become

part of Usenet and wide open to abuse? (The new Forums seem a much

better idea to me)

TIA of a sensible response.

I was a full time employee of Microsoft and why I am no longer

The Microsoft newsgroups were part of USENET before I was involved

with them, probably going back to 1997 or so. As for why, likely to

reach a wider audience and because numerous NNTP providers started

slurping the newsgroups on their own.

If you think the forums are a better idea, I strongly recommend using

them instead. Use what you like.

Firewalling NNTP service from the larger Usenet to prevent abuse requires

some additional steps. The 'sbcglobal.help.tech. ' hierarchy is so

firewalled; requires an 'at&t Yahoo! HSI' login for access. the 'grc. '

hierarchy is so firewalled; requires a unique (to GRC) "Cecil ID" to be able

to post. Presumably, Microsoft did not want to place such barriers to public

access to these groups. Those barriers do lead to support issues for both

firewalled hierarchies.

I always found it remarkable that people would make a post complaining

about people failing to ignore other posts.

I find it remarkable that "educated" individuals are having difficulties

failing to grasp the difference between an observation and a complain.

Most people don't seem to have a problem reading and/or ignoring posts from

this particular individual without responding. (Ex administrator of Usenet

groups would know that lurkers outnumber contributors).

Thank you for explaining that, John. I wasn't trying to pry and it is,

of course, your prerogative not to say why you left. It is of no concern

to me; it was merely a talking point - as Norman intimated, you may

simply have retired in normal course (age related).

I appreciate that information too, John. Thank you.

If I were a betting man I'd wager that only 1 in 1000 folk who utilise

the microsoft Communities groups realise, at least initially, that they

have nothing to do with Microsoft itself (in reality). I have seen many,

many posts from folk who are simply incredulous that Microsoft do not

have staff supervising the newsgroups.and providing answers to their

questions. I'd also bet that 999 in every 1000 will click on links in

threads and in signature blocks thinking that Microsoft will have

checked them to make sure they are 'safe'.

What easy prey we are to those who wish us harm! <sigh>
