Fit Factory scam.

Noticed a strange $29.95 charge on one of our credit cards, I check

transactions daily online, the transaction had the web site www.fit-fac.com

and # 866-407-1022. I went to the web site and it gave the same 800# and a

form for disputing the charge. I called the 800# and told them I didn't

make the charge, they guided me to another web site www.fitfactory.com

giving me a user id and password to see if I could remember the site and

gullibly I signed on and looked and told them no. I then insisted the my

card be credited for the charge and they said they would do that.

I felt uneasy so called the credit card company and told them of the

situation and closed the card and requested a new one. I used this card for

all my online automatic reoccurring charges so I went to all those sites and

updated them to another credit card. Still upset I Googled "Fit Factory" and

saw tons of complaints. I went to the FTC web site

http://www.ftc.gov/redirect/form01.shtm and filled out a complaint. Then

last night thinking the situation over I thought what if I compromised my pc

by going to that site so this morning I did a system restore to a time

before the episode.

Any further information would be appreciated as to what else I should do.

So you think that this outfit's websites may be toxic and may have

compromised your computer but you blithely post links to them? Trying to

spread the (potential) misery? How very generous of you...

So you think that someone would be stupid enough to visit the site anyway

and don't mind spreading the word about how stupid you must be?

Not very smart by posting the website . You also want others to be in the same shoe

All web links given modified as not to work...

Assuming you reported this to the authorities - you have pretty well done

what you could. You did call the creditr card company in question and tell

them this was a fraudulent charge, correct?

However - to be on the safe side - I recommend downloading and installing

SuperAntiSpyware and MalwareBytes and disconnecting (physically) the

computer from the Internet while you perform full scans with those two

products and your updated AntiVirus software.

Also - change all your passwords to something completely different from

your current ones - there should be no similarity. Do this for all web

sites, email accounts, ISP accounts, banks, etc. You may even want to call

all of your credit card companies / banks / etc. immediately and let them

know what seems to be going on. Clear all browser history and begin using

an alternative browser (I suggest downloading/installing Firefox - currently

v3.0.5.)

The earlier you contact the possibly affected entities - the better off you

will be if anything does happen further down the line - as you called before

it happened to warn them of your fears and took action to help prevent it

from happening.

If you are in the U.S.A. - you may want to get a copy of your credit report

(just choose one of the reporting agencies now, do another in about 30 days

to compare...)

http://www.annualcreditreport.com/

This central site allows you to request a free credit file disclosure,

commonly called a credit report, once every 12 months from each of the

nationwide consumer credit reporting companies: Equifax, Experian and

TransUnion.

Yes. I think that many would be stupid enough to visit a link even if it

was described as "certain to totally destroy your computer and then to come

to your house and poison your puppy".

You bet someone would be stupid enough to visit the site...the same type of

people who click on links in their unknown/unsolicited emails...and get

infected, scammed, or phished.

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!! I now have the same problem, but luckily,

either the site has been shut down, or my computer refuses to let me in to

it. You might want to backtrack your bank statements or check with your bank,

and see just how long this has been going on...mine has gone back 3 months.

Please post again if you actually do get a credit back on your card or in

your account from them...guessing its not likely. Your posting actually may

have saved others from going to that site, or getting caught...it will

provide proof to my bank that this is actually a scam...thanks again!

Sorry to hear you had problem too. I check all my bank and credit card

accounts online daily so was able to catch it right away. I still don't

know how they got my credit card #. The only thing I can think of was maybe

it was from Body Works where I ordered some herbal stuff and wasn't carefull

about what was going on.

Guest thrushgreen

I am of the belief that there may be several sites where one can order

similar type items and they may all link back to this one...I went to an Acai

site to order a free sample...luckily my spyware didnt let me into their

site...but I used your posting to convince my bank of what was going on...and

my acai site was listed under the name of a couple of famous

celebrities...their names were probably used illegally as well, I wouldnt

wonder... normally a celebrity's name wouldnt draw me at all, but a free

sample unfortunately did...

Hi Questor. the same thing happened to me. I want to file a complaint with

the FTC, but I need an address to do so. Since you have already gone through

the process, can you provide me with their address? I've looked all over but

can not find it. Thanks!
