Guest Michael Walraven Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Vista home premium, SP1 Internet explorer 7.0.6001.18000 attempting to add an address to the Restricted sites in the security tab of Internet Options. specific site is search.live.com, but applies to any other as well. response is that Sites added to this zone must use the https// prefix. This assures a secure connection. That response is expected when adding to the Trusted sites, not the restricted sites. I have in the past added sites to the Restricted sites, currently there are three sites in the list .intellitext.com .kontra.com .pulse360.com none of which have prefix of https:\\ Any clues as to what is happening would be welcome. You could also try installing SpywareBlaster which can add a list of known bad sites to the restricted sites list (see if it succeeds). Quote
Guest Michael Walraven Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Tried resetting each of the zones, no effect on the problem of adding a site to the Restricted sites. Downloaded SpywareBlaster, it successfully added a big bunch of sites into the restricted sites list. Thanks for input. I just tried it on my system and it accepted the entry without complaint. I am also using Vista SP1 and IE7. I don't know if this is relevant, but are you running an Admin or Limited User account? Guest Michael Walraven Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 yup, tried that although I am trying to enter into the untrusted (restricted) sites, I thought there might be some sort of link. Guest Michael Walraven Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 follow up I created a new administrator member account. That account has no problem adding entries to the restricted site list. That has got to be a clue.... more thinking needed. Guest Michael Walraven Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Re: trouble adding to Restricted sites in IE Options (fixed) Having created the testing account, and that account worked, I saved the registry entries starting from HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Internet settings from the working account then I deleted the same node from my non-working account then I restored the registry settings in my account from the saved reg file saved from the working test account. So far everything is looking fine, I can add to the restricted list without problem. Guest FromTheRafters Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Re: trouble adding to Restricted sites in IE Options (fixed) I began to suspect registry corruption a couple of posts ago and as it looked like you were heading in this direction with your last post I was wondering if you would take that last step. Guest Michael Walraven Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Re: trouble adding to Restricted sites in IE Options (fixed) for those still interested in my problem of not being able to add entries to the restricted security zone sites, I have found the entry in the registry that is stopping me. [HKEY_CURRENT_USER]\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Internet Settings\Zones\4 entry of "Flags"=dword:00000007 prevents me from making entries entry of "Flags"=dword:00000003 allows me to make entries now the question is what is setting the 3 to a 7 (the problem returned!) aside: anyone know what all the entries of "number"=dword: small hex value are for?
