Guest Neil Jones Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Hi, I have an external hard disk where I backup my files and system backups. Yesterday, I purchased a larger external hard disk and want to transfer everything to the new disk. The only command I have noticed is DISKCOPY which might do this. Will this copy everything from the source disk to destination disk? Will the Vista backup directories and shadow (backup) files be copied too? Is there any other tool (preferably freeware) that will do this for me? Thank you in advance. NJ Quote
Guest CBoom Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 If one of your drives is ATA and the other is SATA please post back and I will tell you what to do. Go get a free copy for a limited time of acronis true image 10 http://www.acronis.co.uk/mag/ati10pe that says is vista compatible, and perform a CLONE of your drive from one to the other, then remove the first drive and boot from the second drive -- For tips, tricks and tutorials visit my blog below: http://computerboom.blogspot.com "Neil Jones" <nj@dev.null> wrote in message news:OTDZIoeiJHA.1388@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl...<span style="color:blue"> > Hi, > > I have an external hard disk where I backup my files and system backups. > Yesterday, I purchased a larger external hard disk and want to transfer > everything to the new disk. > > The only command I have noticed is DISKCOPY which might do this. Guest rak Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 There is a website. It used to be on Lifehacker, but they removed it at the request of Acronis and PCWorld. Too much traffic I guess. You should be able to find the link in PCWorld or perhaps on the web.
