Guest poster Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 After MS Defender update, it cleared spyware(that Nod 32 left unnoticed) ,but then dsl modem stopped working and cannot be uninstalled(reinstalled again, because uninstall utility says it is already uninstalled although it is there). Restoring to some point before Defender update when modem was ok and comparing with the registry copy after the Defender intervention(with which tool?) would allow to remove manually the spyware key from reg and keep the modem, provided the sys restore also restored some system files that Defender possibly (accidentally) deleted. What chance is the spyware will not be working without its key and how about some other suggestions how to go about cleaning and enabling modem(please -no deleting modem installation keys from 'clean registry/ if defender indeed cleaned it/' because it led to XP not booting at all) Perhaps uninstalling the modem from restored infected system(if spyware would allow it)and then running the Defender and then trying to reinstall dsl modem is a better idea?
