Please see the special Notes regarding using Multi_AV in Vista. http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Multi-AV - instructions http://tinyurl.com/yoeru3 - download link and more instructions When all else fails, get guided help. Choose one of the specialty forums listed at the first link. Register and read its posting FAQ. PLEASE DO NOT POST LOGS IN THE MS NEWSGROUPS. If you can't do the work yourself (and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea), take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). Please be aware that not all local shops are skilled at removing malware and even if they are, your computer may be so infested that Windows will need to be clean-installed. If possible, have all your data backed up before you take the machine into a shop. Malke -- MS-MVP Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic! http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/#FAQ Quote
Guest Mick Murphy Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 You need more problem specific Programs to remove spyware then AVG; leave it to do the Viruses. Download, install, update and scan with the 2 Programs below. Some spyware stops you installing Programs to remove it, and also stops you getting Security updates from MS. Info below on what to do if that happens: http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html Spybot Search & Destroy 1.6 is a very good, FREE Anti-Spyware Program. Download, install, update, and immunize your System with it. Then SCAN with it. Update it, and scan your System once a fortnight. http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php Malwarebytes is as the name says, a Malware Remover! For the Free version scroll down their page to either download from Download.com, or Major Geeks.com Download, install, and update. Important re: Safe Mode If you happen to find a problem that you can’t uninstall / delete, reboot the computer, and go into Safe Mode. To get into Safe mode, tap F8 right at Power On / Startup, and use UP arrow key to get to Safe Mode from list of options, then hit ENTER. RESCAN your computer with your Anti-Virus, Malwarebytes and Spybot S & D while in Safe Mode. If unable to install above Programs in Normal Mode: Sometimes Trojans, Viruses, Malware, etc stop you installing and/or updating Programs to remove them. If that happens, reboot into Safe Mode with Networking (from F8 list of Startup Options), and install, update and scan from there. -- Mad Mike "babybels71" wrote: <span style="color:blue"> > > Hi, since my son downloaded Windows Messenger Plus and and another > add-on for emoticons e.t.c, my laptop has been inundated with spyware > and other malware, I have free AVG which i normally find excellent but > to no avail..... > > Also I am unable to download any of the recommended Windows Updates, I > keep getting error codes like this:- > > Windows Update error code 80246005 > > > -- > babybels71 > Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com > > </span> Quote
Guest any1have1 Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 I had some good success with the paid version of Cyberdefender, which does viruses, spyware and malware. Mine is WinXP 32, but I assume that it will work for Vista. JMHO Post Originated from http://www.VistaForums.com Vista Support Forums Quote
