Guest Kevin Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Several problems occuring that make me question the security of my computer. I am running Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005, Version 2002, Service Pack 3. Using IE7 as browser. 1. When click on Start --> All Programs --> Windows update...I get a google webpage opening up with address: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ 2. When click on same sequence as in (1), but try an office update...I get a google webpage opening up with address: http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate; but the page says Google error, The requested URL /microsoftupdate was not found on this server. 3. I try to run windows live onecare safety scanner. I click on full service scan. I get the following message: We're sorry. This version of the Windows Live OneCare safety scanner doesn't work with your Web browser or operating system. You need Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Professional, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows Server 2003, or Windows 2000 Server. You also need either Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or MSN® 9.0 or higher. Quote
Guest PA Bear [MS MVP] Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 [Crossposted to Windows Update newsgroup] Is this a sudden, new problem or an ongoing one? Is Automatic Updates enabled? What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)? Were any of these applications running in the background when you installed IE7 and/or SP3? Has a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Start a free Windows Update support incident request: https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=6527 For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY in the United States and in Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft subsidiary.
