If you wish to keep it (not my recommendation), post in the AVG support forum. AVG Free Support Forum - http://freeforum.avg.com/ AVG Pro (paid-for) - http://www.grisoft.com/ww.support Recommended antivirus programs: NOD32 (commercial) or Avast (free). In addition to the above suggestions, it couldn't hurt to make sure your computer is malware-free: http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2....emoving_Malware Malke -- MS-MVP Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic! http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/#FAQ Quote
Guest smackheadz Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 if you leave it does security center keep saying it's not running or does it take a while for security center to acknowledge that it's running? -- smackheadz Quote

It's not that uncommon for the Security Center to get out of sync with the installed antivirus. Did you have a different AV installed before AVG? It may be that it didn't uninstall completely. If that's the case you could try running a "removal tool" for the previous product. Meanwhile, since you're confident that AVG is working properly you could disable the Security Center notification. I had problems with IE for years, for example downloads would usually fail if the files were large. Finally I discovered a DLL from ZoneAlarm in my system and I deleted it. My IE problems went away. Guest Goldproblem Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Following advice in http://freeforum.avg.com/ I switched off the UAC through User Accounts in control panel and rebooted. Vista makes a hell of fuss about doing this but persevere. Switch it back on and reboot again and the problem disappears - something to do with the level at which AVG is running. There can be deeper problems caused by registry corruption. Fixing these is explained in the avg forum. Reading a number of reviews, PC Pro for example I am not inclined to change my free anti-virus product. If the mooted free Vista upgrades to W7 become available on my Dell I'll certainly take that root.
