Guest John Doe Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 As most of you here know, many malwares make it impossible to boot into the installed Windows installation (and many times even safe mode) and/or make it difficult/impossible to install, run or update security software. If malwarebytes, superantispyware, combofix, or even AVG came out with bootable versions of their software, it should then be possible to do an initial cleaning in order to make it possible to boot into the installed OS. Yes, I know about BartPE, WinPE, Linux etc. but these do not make it possible to install or run the security softwares I mentioned . . . Quote

You can use plugins to look for malware and/or viruses. Check on the Bart's PE site and also look on their user forums. Various antivirus companies also offer bootable .isos. You just have to look around. Some of them cost and some of them don't. You can also run DOS-based antivirus programs. Guest John Doe Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Yep, knew (or was recently informed) about all those. But, as I say, it'd be nice if the softwares I mentioned specifically would make a stand-alone/bootable version, since IMHO they're the best out there! Why do you say that they can't be run. Some detection software detects malware by the actions it takes. If you boot clean you may not have any behavior at all for the detector to detect. Other malware may require the registry in order to start, this malware may not start when booting clean, but you also don't have the affected registry hive loaded and there is no way for the cleaner to edit it (or read it) if it is not. Just what are you trying to accomplish that PE disks won't do for you? Quote
Guest John Doe Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Try this; boot up a Windows based computer using Bart PE, then try to run combofix, malwarebytes, SAS, or AVG & report back . . .
