Guest Rinnousuke Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 I'll try that option then, if it's as simple as your words suggest. Thank you all for your help so far, I really appreciate it. I'll reply if I encounter any further problems. Guest Rinnousuke Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 Hello Jim It seems that my notebook isn't the usual type, as there doesn't seem to be any doors on the bottom. I tried to take it apart from the upper side and go underneath the keyboard and touchpad, but found out that the hard drive seems to be encased underneath a protective layer of some sort, which means that short of taking apart the entire laptop, I won't be able to reach it. Guest Rinnousuke Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 Hello Thank you all for your help, my computer has returned to its previous condition. As an afterthought, how do I tell between fake positives and genuinely infected files? Regards Rinnousuke "1PW" wrote: > On 02/22/2009 03:12 AM, Rinnousuke sent: > > Hello Pete > > > > The model should be Lenovo R61. > > > > Regards > > Rinnousuke > > The Hardware Maintenance Manual, in PDF, for your R61 ThinkPad is > available through this web page: > > <http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67760> > > Page 63 may have the information you desire. If a file on your computer is flagged as possibly being infected, uploading the suspected file to reputable file scanning services such as VirusTotal.com, jotti.org, or the like, will render an opinion from up to three dozen or more file scanners. Therefor, their statistical report results should influence your decision correctly. Our only disclaimer might be that if you were the absolute first person in the universe to experience the infection, these services might temporarily fall short. But that would be a statistical anomaly. Pete -- 1PW @?6A62?FEH9:DE=6o2@=]4@> [r4o7t] Quote
