Unknown Malware

Hello:

I have a critical question with a program if it is a virus or not. There is

a game called Stress which destroys your desktop but I read comments of it

with cautioned ratings. The only conflict is the author say it does not have

malware. The file is from this unsure website:

http://mouserunner.net

The only thing I can do is wait and go for the answer.

Thanks.

I'm unsure what you want us to do for you. Download the game and see if it

infects one of our computers? As for the author saying it has no malware,.

if it does have malware and he's a bad guy do you really think he's going

to tell you? Possibly if someone reading your post previously downloaded

the game and it trashed their system they'll reply, but wouldn't just using

good common sense be a better choice for you?

There are a zillion games out there from well-known safe sources, tons of

them free. Why take a chance on this one?

Malke has given you a sensible answer, but ...........

The Stress game to which you refer I remember using, and being fascinated

with, over 10 years ago. It is not something new and I am fairly confident

that your PC will suffer no damage should you decide to play with this game!

I would avoid it.

why would you take an

unnecessary risk.

even if it is malware free,

we don't know how stable

is your system at this time

or what sort of precautions

or methodologies you have

taken to ensure you can

recover successfully from

corruption.

It looks like a more modern version of the "desktop.exe"

program I used to have on W98. I just love the sound of

machine gun shells bouncing around. Breaking glass sounds

with the hammer - wasn't there a plasma torch?

Dancing pigs anyone?

Anyway, you spin the wheel and you take your chances. A

perfectly legitimate program can be easily made malicious so

nobody can tell you this is not malicious. The first best

way to deal with this is to ask yourself "Do I need this

program?" Of course the answer is "no" - so don't download

it. The second best way to deal with this is to download the

program and put it in a safe place for a 'cooling off'

period. After the period has expired submit the program to

anti-virus and general anti-malware scans. The cooling off

period is to give anti programs time to detect this if it is

new malware. If you give it a week in solitary

confinement,. it is already a week old by the time you have

it scanned - that should be plenty of time for you to avoid

being one of the first hosts for new malware.
