Nothing within the application will timeout or force you to buy or upgrade. Many folks in these malware newsgroups support MBAM. Pete -- 1PW @?6A62?FEH9:DE=6o2@=]4@> [r4o7t] Quote

Guest Saga Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 What confused me was the fact that about a month ago I posted a query in this group and some folks recommended MBAM. I recall downloading and installing it. Now I was about to recommend it to some one else "knowing" that it was free and when I go to the page I referenced I see two buttons for its download "Download Free Trial version" "Buy Now Full version" As far as I know, most, if not all, "trial versions" are free. And by "trial" the author/vendor usually means that the app will have nag screens, limited functionality or a time or usage limit. Neither of these buttons imply a "freeware" (albeit limited) version, although as others mentioned the "Download Free Trial version" is precisely that. Regards, Saga. Regards, Saga.</span> Trial versions can expire, self-cripple, or nag after 15 days, 30 days, 2 months, 1 year, or have an indefinite expiration, and they may even "renew" after the trial expires (to ensure their users get the latest version to reduce support calls or negative reviews). I don't see information there on how long the trial lasts. The "Download free trial" link takes you to download.com for the actual download. If you backtrack to the home page for the product there (http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti...4-10804572.html), you'll see it is the free version with no limitations (i.e., no expiration). The free version doesn't include real-time protection. It is just a scanner. That means you should be downloading the latest version whenever you notice problems and want to run MalwareBytes. So although the free "trial" version doesn't expire, you should not continue using an old version and instead update to the latest version before using it. You not only want to get a later static version with newer pest detection but also to get bug fixes in the program itself. There is no auto-update in the free version. That comes in the full paid version. I didn't see a link to their forums on their web site until I looked under the "Contact Us" top navbar link. I have not participated there to know if they are reasonably active forums. They are at: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/ Quote
