DATA EXECUTION PREVENTION

Hi,

I have been having trouble booting up. I get a block that says DATA

EXECUTION PREVENTION has shut down DOS % FILE COMPARE Utility. If I click on

close message, my wallpaper comes up, but no icons. I can not access any of

my programs. Can I disable it or fix it somehow?

Thanks.

Yes, you can disable or reconfigure DEP. Chances are that you don't want

to do this however. You may have a malware infestation to take care of.

I don't know any specifics, but you are apparently not alone in this

(unless this is also you).

you are probably infected with sality which is what killed my

virtual machine last night.

boot-up, hit ctrl-alt-del to open task manager. click file> new

task and type explorer and see if your desktop appears. if you

receive more data execution prevention messages, it's a bad sign.

if you do have this infection, it infects EVERY .exe, .htm, .html, &

.src file on the computer. be careful of backing up data.
