Guest Maurice Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I write to inquire if MS will have an update for this threat? Not just a removal tool after the event? Much thanks in advance for an informed opinion. Quote

If Automatic Updates were enabled this was a non-issue. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/MS08-067.mspx If you've already been effected the Removal Tool can remove it: http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx -- Paul Smith, Yeovil, UK. Guest Tom Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I downloaded the Patch, and when I applied it, a message said something like "this patch is not required...". How can I tell if the patch or update is correctly installed (Vista 64)? -tom On Mon, 30 Mar 2009 04:04:01 -0700, Paul Smith <paul@nospam.windowsresource.net> wrote: > "Maurice" <Maurice@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:11F4D78E-7977-4AFA-955E-46DB980CA0DA@microsoft.com... >> I write to inquire if MS will have an update for this threat? Guest John Barnett MVP Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 If the patch is 'not required' you probably already have it installed. Make a note of the KB number and check your update history (windows updates>view update history) to see if the fix has been applied. -- -- John Barnett MVP Windows XP Associate Expert Windows Desktop Experience Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org Web: http://www.silversurfer-guide.com The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is". Guest Tom Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 That KB is NOT listed in the history. If it was part of the default build of the laptop, could it not be considered an update? In that case, what do I look for? -tom On Mon, 30 Mar 2009 08:59:09 -0700, John Barnett MVP <freelance@invalid.invalid> wrote: > If the patch is 'not required' you probably already have it installed. > Make a note of the KB number and check your update history (windows > updates>view update history) to see if the fix has been applied. > Quote
Guest THE C. [MS MVP] Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Tom, make sure your anti-virus (what ever your using) is up to date. If your still not sure, do a scan of your system. Make it a great day. -- Computer/Software Tech. Charles Richmond http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ "Tom" wrote: > That KB is NOT listed in the history. Guest John Barnett MVP Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 This is the link for the update I referred to: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/MS08-067.mspx Choose which operating system you are using and download the appropriate update. If the update is already installed then a warning will appear on your screen. It wouldn't be part of the default build because, as far as I know, the patch was released after Service pack 1. I've installed service pack 2 and it still shows the KB patch in the update history window so maybe your machine hasn't been patched? You should make sure that your Anti Virus is up to date along with any Malware/spyware software you have installed. -- -- John Barnett MVP Windows XP Associate Expert Windows Desktop Experience Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org Web: http://www.silversurfer-guide.com The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is".
