Malicious Software Removal Tool Full Scan

Hi,

Curious if anyone can elaborate on what the MRT full scan encompasses. It

obviously includes more than what's found in the file system on a volume yes?

I'm wondering why the "files scanned" count is so high - does it scan every

file inside archives/cabinets too?

What else is considered a "file" in this context?

Thanks!

Yes. It includes archive type files so you will see a file count larger than the physical

number of files.

These may included; ZIP, CAB, MSI, CHM type files.

The log files indicate it detects the presence of malware in files,

processes, and registry keys.

I suppose it would have to since it is assumed that the system is

compromised. That is, it is not a preventative tool, and wouldn't

automatically scan the file when extracted from the cabinet.

It could be that they count all "objects" as "files", but I don't know

for sure. Hopefully, someone closely associated with that program can

enlighten us all.
