Guest oooiooo Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 how do I find my default vista username. My problem is that I have a legal copy of goldmine 5.7 that I installed on this new laptop. In the installation there was a screen to type in my username and passord to access goldmine in the future....and I left them both blank. Now i cannot get into my goldmine program and when I uninstall it and reinstall it... it does not give me the opportunity to pick a new username and password. Vista has stored some default username (assumed) How do I find out what it is? Any help is greatly appreciated because I have lots of info on goldmine and I cant get in -- oooiooo Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com Quote

You will need to call Goldmine tech support. Malke -- MS-MVP Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic! http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/#FAQ Quote
Guest Michael Walraven Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Your vista user name is the one you signed in with. I have seen a few programs that use that as a default when asking for a name. I would suggest uninstalling the application and then re-installing it. Guest John Barnett MVP Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 If you have uninstall the program and then re-installed it and haven't been prompted for a user name/password the chances are that Goldmine does not remove those details from the registry (some applications ask you if you want to remove these details.) A suggestion that might work (but I can't promise) is reinstall Goldmine and then download a free application called Revo Uninstall. (www.revouninstall.com). Now install Revo and run it. Select Goldmine from the list of programs that Revo brings up and click uninstall. Revo 'will' use Goldmines own uninstall program to uninstall, but will then check for redundant/orphaned files in the registry etc and allow you to delete them. This 'might' solve the problem - Revo is excellent for removing all traces of applications. If this doesn't work then try a system restore back to a point prior to when you 'first' installed Goldmine - preferably a day or so earlier than your first initial install. Failing that you will need to contact Goldmine to see if they can help. The system restore, however, should do the trick. -- -- John Barnett MVP Windows XP Associate Expert Windows Desktop Experience Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org Web: http://www.silversurfer-guide.com The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is". Guest Sam Hobbs Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 You should be able to get help from the person that sold you Goldmine. Guest John Barnett MVP Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Yes, Aaron. My mistake I had missed the 'er' of the end of install. Thanks for pointing the error out. Most folks say that apps that remove registry entries are dangerous. Your opinion please...or do you recommend it just for the problem that the OP is having? Dave T. Quote
Guest John Barnett MVP Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Hi Dave T Yes I have used Revo and have found it extremely useful. You do have to be careful with the registry removal aspect, though. However, having said that it does provide a detailed list of registry entries that need attention when you uninstall an application. You have the choice as to what registry entries will be removed so, basically, it is a case of looking at what is available, carefully. I personally don't agree with using registry cleaners per se, but Revo is actually removing 'one' application rather than randomly going through the registry and saying you have 1000 problems in your registry only to find that, after you have corrected the 1000 registry problems, and you scan again, you have another 2000 problems. I have no problem using it. -- -- John Barnett MVP Windows XP Associate Expert Windows Desktop Experience Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org Web: http://www.silversurfer-guide.com The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is". I know that Microsoft's uninstaller probably doesn't do a good job so I have always used CCleaner (for uninstall only, not the reg clean aspect). Based on your info, I will give Revo a cautious test. Thanks again. Dave T. Quote
