Lethalfind Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 I agree with you, she shouldn't had to go through that and I can't imagine she would have wanted to. I don't know what the laws are like in the UK for this situation. Quote I am a pathetic piece of shit leeching single mom.
Feckless Wench Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 I think the law is similar to the USA on this point....it's illegal and if you assist someone to do it you are headed to jail. Quote Dementia is just a state of mind.
AdR Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 The law is clear, but the enforcement is not. If you assist someone who is obviously suffering and in the last few days of life to end it then you will more than likely get a suspended sentence (i.e. one you will only serve if you commit another offence within a specified period), but not actually go to jail. This has happened again recently, but that is the families who are having to do the job, if a doctor or highly qualified consultant could make the decision that the person's life is effectively over (and I would say that being zonked on drugs 24/7 is effectively over) in conjunction with the next of kin or at least two family members then they should provide this relief as a service to the patient Quote

Thats very sad...thats why I say the only way to make sure this does'nt happen to you is make plans in advance... Its very sad that the law would rather see people suffer then relieve them of that suffering. Quote I am a pathetic piece of shit leeching single mom.
