The Canadian troops can't do it on their own... send in more pot heads !!

Canadian troops fighting Taliban militants in Afghanistan have stumbled across an unexpected and potent enemy -- almost impenetrable forests of 10-feet (three metre) high marijuana plants.

General Rick Hillier, chief of the Canadian defence staff, said on Thursday that Taliban fighters were using the forests as cover. In response, the crew of at least one armored car had camouflaged their vehicle with marijuana.

"The challenge is that marijuana plants absorb energy, heat very readily. It's very difficult to penetrate with thermal devices ... and as a result you really have to be careful that the Taliban don't dodge in and out of those marijuana forests," he said in a speech in Ottawa.

"We tried burning them with white phosphorous -- it didn't work. We tried burning them with diesel -- it didn't work. The plants are so full of water right now ... that we simply couldn't burn them," he said.

Even successful incineration had its drawbacks.

"A couple of brown plants on the edges of some of those (forests) did catch on fire. But a section of soldiers that was downwind from that had some ill effects <---yeah right and decided that was probably not the right course of action," Hillier said dryly.

One soldier told him later: "Sir, three years ago before I joined the army, I never thought I'd say 'That damn marijuana'."

10 feet tall, that boggles the mind !!!

I saw something similar about some plants they found in Hawaii, I couldn't believe the size of them !!!

Seems ashamed to destroy all that wonderful pot, with plants TEN FEET TALL, how big must the buds be??

Pretty shitty really. Because of the male plants. They lower the potency and you have seeds, "Dirt weed". Not that I would turn any away mind you.;)

Drugs are for the weak minded, supplied by the even weaker minded because they have not the ability to influence otherwise.

Perhaps I may be way off here, but I wouldn't necessarily call anything that grows natural a drug. Straight marijuana and coke are nefarious in their own right, but grow as wild as grass shoots and shrubbery in many parts of the world.

What makes something a drug, to me, is when it is manufactured. Such as adding baking soda to cocaine to stretch out a supply or mixing weeds with marijuana. Crystal meth is another good example of manufactured drugs.

Is it possible that some naturally, reoccurring plants that possess the qualities of narcotics or barbiturates given a bum rap for their manufactured cousins?

That's true, a good crop must be all female... and, actually, I found that the plants between 2 and 3 feet tall produce the big, tight, and sticky buds.

Yepper. Pruning your plants at every other internode produces the best effect. The nutrients have a lesser distance to travel in order to supply the buds. My highest yielding plant ever, was only 4 feet tall. Pulled well over a quarter pound from it. Of of course this was back a long long time ago.:D

African marijuana plants have been documented at around 20 feet tall.

Here in Indiana, hemp comprises about 1.5% of the total natural pollen count in the air in certain parts. Much higher numbers are measured around areas such as the Camp Atterbury army base. There you can find a large amount of what is known as "ditchweed". During WWII the military grew vast amounts of hemp in this area to use as rope and canvas (which is a derivative of the word cannabis BTW) for the war effort.

Well I see that yet another drug justification thread is about to spin off into the never ending void of ridiculousness, next we will see numerous posts touting the medical and scientific benefits of drugs etc… etc… a vast array of links pointing us to he TRUTH etc.. etc.. etc.. Can’t all of you just admit you just like getting high because getting high helps you hid from your life.

Its a form of entertainment. I could list several paragraphs about the positive real world applications of hemp, but I won't bother. My only interest in smoking dope is its intoxicating effects. I readily admit my reason for supporting marijuana. It makes me forget about the stress of daily life. That long drive home in the rain. My asshole boss at work. My ex-wifes antics. All the things that spur depression and anxiety, are deflected with a few tokes of this marvelous plant. Many will reach for their bottles of booze or their Prozac prescription and yet condemn me for smoking a plant. To each his own I say. If it makes you happy and doesn't directly affect others, then there is no reason why I should feel ashamed of it.

Your choice of the phrase "hiding from your life" is inept. While I'm "hiding from life" I'm out having more fun and experiencing more then most of the fat lazy couch potatoes that condemn marijuana. Your perpetuating a false stereotype of the typical pot smoker. This idea that if you smoke dope on a regular basis, then your doomed to a life of complacent do-nothingness, is dead wrong. I get out in the world each week more then most of the "sober" society does in a year. To drawn to their 60 inch HD TV's, PC's, and DVDs. Give me some THC and I'll have some R & R and TGIF motherfucker.

Do you ever get drunk NN? Just because it's legal doesn't make it any less of a way of 'hiding' from life'. How about sleeping, that takes you away from it for a while too....

Maybe if you 'hid from life' once in a while you'd be a calmer person.

I just like to get high to hide from life...

AND as Feckless and MM have pointed out, not so different from getting drunk...although I have never gotten sick from smoking pot as can easily happen if you drink too much.

I actually get quite irritated when a discussion about the legalization of marijuana turns towards sighting the beneficial industrial/medicinal uses for it. Those points aside, why the hell are we stripping lawful Americans of their freedom and locking them in a cage for smoking a weed that makes you giggle?

Its OK to drive home with a bottle of whiskey and drink til ya shit your pants. But its very much illegal to drive home with a few J's, smoke 'em, eat some pasta and watch comedy central. Marijuana has been vilified, both literally and figuratively. But why?

I think the act of smoking has been so heavily stigmatized. Maybe if marijuana was consumed through drinking as opposed to smoking, it wouldn't be so ugly.

I concur. I'm not a pothead, but I believe whatever an adult wants to do in his own fucking home is of their own volition. Even if it hurts someone else, the said person has made an adult decision and they know the consequences. There are too many fucking laws protecting ourselves from ourselves.

The religious right has vilified a lot of things.

Right now, some twat in Loganville, Ga is trying to get Harry Potter books taken off the shelf of the libraries in her school district. Based on the fact that they promote witchcraft. Bullshit... it promotes reading.

I read about that cunt...I don't believe in censorship...I have the entire collection of the books.

The religion I was brought up in tried that with me, just made me WANT to read all the more. I hid the books I was reading, I bought books that were mistaken for the Bible when it was really something they would dissapprove of AND Read them in church.

I saw that bitch on TV last week. She was prattling on about how witchs and warlocks are evil. My only thought. Witchs and warlocks aren't real.

I am still shocked by the complete disconnect that some people can display. I'm sure this lady is genuinely concerned about children turning towards witchcraft after witnessing it being glorified on TV. Which I find very disturbing.

This lady is scared of witchs. I'm scared of people that are scared of witchs. Does that make any sense?

Neither are ghosts, but we are taught at an early age that they do not exist.

Where the fuck does the term Holy Ghost come from? Surely its not the Bible? How is one ghost holier than the next?

I live out of the thought process now after having lived in it growing up, then something like this BITCH comes along and I remember how ignorant and completely on ANOTHER planet they are.
