phreakwars Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 OK, Baldemar wasn't really my uncle, but rather a close friend of my dad's... I am speaking of course, of Freddy Fender. Him and my dad were both born in San Benito and used to work the fields back in the day when they were kids. I remember back in the 70's when he made it big and my dad telling me it was his friend Baldemar, and that his name wasn't really Freddy.. I didn't really believe him until the day he actually came to our house to visit ( and spent the fucking day getting drunk as hell with my dad). How annoying it was to watch those 2 drunken bastards sing all those fucking old mexican songs.. but, such is the way of the drunken mexican.. All in all though, he was a pretty cool guy and he will be missed As they used to say: Vaya Con Dios Tio Freddy !! . . Quote https://www.facebook.com/phreakwars

phreakwars Posted October 16, 2006 Author Posted October 16, 2006 My dad (actually he was my step father ), died of cerosis of the liver. All those years of drinking like a fucking fish caught up with him. And yep, he died young. In Mexico, it's pretty common for kids to start drinking at a young age, my dad was one of those who started when he was about 13 and became an alcoholic from there. The life lesson, I and my other brothers and sisters learned, is drinking is OK in moderation, but long term damage will catch up to you eventually. The ironic thing, is my dad had been alcohol free for probably 3 or 4 years, but by then it was too late and the damage to his liver was too far advanced. He had gotten Diabetes too, so I'm sure that didn't help. I don't feel bad for him one bit, he chose to drink his life away. . . Quote https://www.facebook.com/phreakwars

Lethalfind Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Snaf, I can understand him feeling that way. I had a similar conversation with my Mother. If you have children and a family, you have responsibilities...its selfish to continue with a habit that will remove you from this earth before you actually MUST leave. Thankfully my birth Mother stopped smoking not long after that, hopefully not too late for her. Quote I am a pathetic piece of shit leeching single mom.
