Guest Sam Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 In Window XP Pro, when I connect the external HD to my computer, the safely remove Icon appears in the notification tray. Does this happen with Windows 7 also? Thanks for any help, Sam. Quote

It only appears when you have the drive configured to use caching. This causes a reminder so that you don't lose any data when disconnecting the external hard drive. Dave Quote

I never enable caching on any external drive and still use the "Safely remove hardware" icon, both in XP and Win7. Less chance of damage/lost data that way, even if it is supposed to be hot pluggable/unpluggable.
