Down Low Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Hi everyone as you may know, I am new here. I wanted to share something that pisses me off and I hope I am not being too serious. It pisses me off that athletes get paid 5 to 10 million a year to play sports and most don't give back to their communities. I respect their athleticism but I don't like how pro sports is now about greed. I volunteer at a school in my own neighbourhood that is underfunded and the best teachers are scared to teach there. I teach after school reading. I often pay for the books with my own money because the school board is strapped for cash. Why do good teachers get paid so poorly and Shaq gets paid 137 000 per dunk? That pisses me off. It pisses me off that I help two of my sisters out so that they can raise their kids when the so called fathers disappeared before their first birthdays. My blood is not going to starve. That pisses me off. For those who have gone without food in their life, they know what I am talking about. Peace. Quote
Jhony5 Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Shaq is far more marketable then some random teacher. Pro athletes get paid serious bucks because they make millions of dollars in revenue for other interests. Professional sports brings in millions of dollars to local revenue. Don't get me wrong. Teachers are important and all that. But teaching is supposed to be a selfless act. Professional sports is entirely the opposite. I don't blame athletes for selfishly demanding the most they can get. Once they sign the contract, they are utilized much the same way as slaves. Every aspect of their lives is entirely controlled by the organization that owns them. Quote i am sofa king we todd did.
hugo Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Most teachers are fucking morons. Phantom Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 It has to do with what they generate. A teacher is paid with tax money. A pro athlete can make millions of dollars for the team's owner. Hence, a very lucrative salary. Quote Blah.
builder Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Most teachers are fucking morons. No, most teachers need to put some effort in to meet that mark. Quote Persevere, it pisses people off.

Jhony5 Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 I've had many teachers that even as a child, I knew they were incompetent. A music teacher that locked kids in a dark broom closet when they spoke in class. Same teacher wrapped duct tape around my head and made me sit in class with it on. She mysteriously disappeared on "medical leave". I've had liberal teachers in high school that preached their views. A fat fuck that would sneak up behind you if he realized you were chewing gum, and choke you till you spit your gum out. Then you would have to wear it on your nose. In the 2nd grade I had a female teacher that sat us all down and threatened to strip search us all if a missing bottle of glue didn't resurface. I was beaten (paddled) with a 24' perforated wooden stick outside my classroom door for all the students to hear the intimidating whack for getting an F in the 4th grade. In the 6th grade I had a teacher that separated the seating in his class to two sides. One side of the class were the good students, the other the bad students. We weren't separated for misbehavior. Rather those whom were on the upside of the curve, and those who were on the downside. He used overt humiliation as a tool to spur progress. A teacher my 12th grade social studies class was teaching us about the "great for-fathers of America". Whom believed that all men were created equal. I raised my hand and exclaimed that yes, they did believe this, as long as you weren't black, a woman, or poor. I was suspended and threatened with expulsion if I didn't apologize to the entire class for making a "racist" comment. This incident resulted in my dropping out of school because I refused to apologize. There are good teachers. However there are many many fucked up jerks whom simply have a job teaching students whatever text they are prescribed to. Anyone else have memories of teachers who utilized egregious tactics to rule their kingdom? Quote i am sofa king we todd did.

ToriAllen Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 You guys, please. I don't think he is trying to get at why athletes are paid so much and teachers so little. The answer to that is obvious. I also don't think this is an argument about whether or not most public school teachers are incompetent. The answer to that is also obvious. This is about those people who make the most money in our society being selfish assholes, and leaving the burden of charity on the backs of those who do not have much to give. Correct me if I Quote Smart men learn from their own mistakes; Wise men learn from others. I refuse to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed man.

Down Low Posted October 26, 2006 Author Posted October 26, 2006 All of you are too hard on teachers. They are treated horribly, but they have one of the most important jobs in a civilized society, educating us. Education enlightens the mind, it is what seperates us from regular animals. Sure, some teachers are better than others. But they now get harassed, attacked even shot trying to fulfill a crucial role in society for very little money in relative terms. I don't care if athlettes are said to support the economy, higher civilization has a scope beyone money. I am a proud American, but our allegiance to the almighty dollar has cheapened us and made us lose the values that are important. Civilization in its purest form should not be controlled by economics but by rational and sophisticated universal thought. Think about it, why is greed not a virtue? Quote

They get zero sympathy from me. They knew the pay would be shitty. That they would have to deal with punkass students. Thats like a cop crying about his pay. I say get a real fucking job. I am what I am and I make no excuses, nor do I hide from it. I went to night school and easily acquired my GED (good enough diploma). In many ways I was the typical angry young man, I was only seventeen then. Maybe I knew then that I was to make a living with my hands. To late for regrets. I make a good salary. I have a modest home in a nice neighborhood. My daughter gets far more then the tattered shoes and torn pants that I wore to school. In our society, Its not always how smart you are, but rather what you do with the knowledge you possess. you now spend alot of time attempting to show how smart you areOh do I? .....and why are you here? you wanted the system to modify to your needs You got it wrong bro. I have always questioned what was being forced into my head. I refused to accept prepackaged information without first examining it. When my teacher told me about the great men whom founded our country, I called them out for the slave owning rich white bastards that they were. All the other children stayed quite, taking notes and participating in the required patriotic assimilation process. 1 Quote i am sofa king we todd did.

Some military helps too. Statistics show that if you have a 4 year degree that you will earn more in your life time, and who am I to argue with numbers. However, when I hear the people preach that if you don't finish high school your doomed, well I can cite many examples from personal experience that counter these claims. Aside from myself, I have several friends that cut loose early from HS. My long time buddy Jim was among the top 5% of students in Indianapolis. He quit HS halfway into his senior year. He's now a painting contractor and makes very good money. My friend Denis dropped out in the 10th grade and makes a respectable living as a maintenance superintendent. Dude can take apart anything mechanical, and reassemble it better then its prior condition. As I said previously. Its not how "smart" society has deemed you to be with a sheepskin. Its what you make of the intelligence you have. I quite often hire employees that are very smart, finished HS and some have attended college. Many of these early "successes" are now 35 years old and starting a night stock job making $7.50 an hour working for me, the dropout. Quote i am sofa king we todd did.

Vortex Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 wow this topic got further from the original post than most.. But...a cheap ass bastard is a cheap ass bastard..and even if they throw money around "willy nilly" to various causes it doesnt mean they will spend it to where they grew up, hung out, went to school...etc... they are going to throw it where it means the most to them... and on the "teachers a stupid" subject...thats just a retarded thing to even bring up....Someone has to teach the kids the basics because parents cant even seem to teach the kids right from wrong.....instead they take their own opinions and force their kids to believe that their way is the ONLY way....and in the house thats fine.....socially its kinda dangerous! teachers are far underpaid to deal with the crap that gets thrown at them and they cant even do much about discipline because parents just cant understand that their "little angels" would do ANYTHING wrong...i mean please...the television set has tought them so many good values that they would never act out accordingly !! as far as the donating money and giving back to wherever you are from..there is zero obligation to do so for anyone on this planet...but if they do...then hey...great person! all the more for them!...if they dont...why get upset about it...really! The teacher subject..they need their salaries doubled ...IMHO..NOT because of the actual kids they are trying to teach...but because of the parents expecting the teachers to teach ALL the kids in ther class the parents values of learning...and not of the general learning that schools teach. (and of course the ones that feel toting a gun to class is okay as well).. teachers jobs are right up there with garbage men/women, dishwashers etc... this is one messed up thread...im not even sure what im supposed to be for or against anymore...teachers...kids....celebs..etc....sigh Quote -I don't know about you...but I am SICK and tired of being nice and understanding!!! -The Liver is evil and must be punished! -The Early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese. Jhony5 Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 Don't blame me, I tried to reclaim it. What happened to DL? I think he should bring this thread back around by further explaining his rant. WTF are you and Vorty bitching about the thread topics for? First off, since when does any thread on this board stay on topic? Secondly, The original poster (Down Low) was crying about three or four different things in one post. He cried about how much athletes make. He cried about how much teachers don't make. He cried about deadbeat dads. He cried about underfunded school systems. If that jackass wanted this thread to have a specific direction, then I think he should have narrowed the scope a little. Also look at the thread title.>Things that make you go mmmmh . Naked women make me go mmmmmmh. Pancakes with bluberry syrup make me go mmmmmh. A phat joint of Canadian bubblegum makes me go mmmmh. Retarded motherfucker MEANT, I think, to say hmmmmmm....not mmmmmh. Down Low, Ima call you 'can't get right'. Thats your new name buddy. Good 'ol can't get right, cuz that motherfucker can't get right. Posted by Vortex:wow this topic got further from the original post than most..No it didn't. They all get fucked and end up in left field. Usually turn into chat room fodder. I simply choose to rant about incompetent teachers and the less then swell job they do of educating children. As I said before, teaching is supposed to be a SELFLESS act. Which does not suggest that they get paid out the ass to recite from outdated and heavily biased text books. If teachers got paid by the grades their students churned out, then they would all be eating canned dog food for dinner. Quote i am sofa king we todd did.
