Phantom Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 How do you feel about cosmetic surgery? Should it only be used to repair disfigurements or accident victims? Do you feel those who undergo plastic surgery solely for cosmetic purposes suffer from low self esteem? Are you disgusted by those who overdose on plastic surgery and end up looking like stretch mannequins? Have you ever had any work done or have you considered it? Why or why not? Quote Blah.
angie Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 How do you feel about cosmetic surgery? I think it's stupid to put yourself into surgery just so you can look prettier. Should it only be used to repair disfigurements or accident victims? Free enterprise. I may think it's stupid but if some dumbass wants to shell out 10 grand for a new nose, well then be my guest. Isn't my money. Do you feel those who undergo plastic surgery solely for cosmetic purposes suffer from low self esteem? Yes. Not including reconstructive surgery or those who do so because of severe disfigurement, I think it's pretty shallow. If you can't feel good about yourself without getting a new face, a tummy tuck, and/or implants, you need to see a shrink. Are you disgusted by those who overdose on plastic surgery and end up looking like stretch mannequins? Yes, and you can almost always tell when someone's had it done, especially face lifts. Their faces are stuck in a permanent position and they look as stupid as they are. Have you ever had any work done or have you considered it? Why or why not? I have better things to worry about, and better things to spend my money on. While I'm not Angelina Jolie, I am comfortable with the way I look 90% of the time (we all have self-loathing days now and then). I don't need to make myself look different in order for people to like me. I have plenty of friends, a good man, and a great family. The funny thing is, is that from what I have seen, those who undergo plastic surgery usually aren't half bad looking in the first place. They're just so fucking insecure that they can't see it. Chi Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 And what a coinkie dink, my bf and I were talking about this very same thing last night as we were watching tv. It was first brought up when we were watching the Insider as they featured some crazy chick who is addicted to plastic surgery. She looks FAKE! From head to toe. Now that is WAAY too extreme and overboard IMO. I told him my opinion as I stated in my earlier response and he didn't agree. He said only in cases of reconstructive surgery like after masectomies because of breast cancer, other medical reconstructive surgery (burns, accidents) etc. etc. Then later on in the night we were watching Dancing with the Stars. I mentioned how Mario Lopez' partner (whatever her name is) would greatly benefit from a nose job. She is otherwise very beautiful, has a killer body and all, only thing that messes her up is her nose. My bf agreed and took back his "only reconstructive surgery like after masectomies because of breast cancer, other medical reconstructive surgery (burns, accidents) etc. etc.". That's what I thought, I'm always right;) Quote

If you can't feel good about yourself without getting a new face, a tummy tuck, and/or implants, you need to see a shrink. Most people undergo cosmetic surgery because their self esteem is so closely connected to their physical appearance. No problem with a little nip and tuck here and there, though. Yes, and you can almost always tell when someone's had it done, especially face lifts. Their faces are stuck in a permanent position and they look as stupid as they are. Botox patients can be spotted a mile away, too. lol I have better things to worry about, and better things to spend my money on. Would you have a problem getting some things fixed down the road as you age? I don't believe in facial reconstruction or anything (like cheek bone implants), but aging terrifies me. Altering your appearance is wrong but fixing things as they fall apart isn't so much of a problem to me. Quote Blah.

Now that is WAAY too extreme and overboard IMO. Exactly. Get cosmetic surgery for reconstruction- not to fix your flaws. Flaws make us unique. I have a hooked and crooked nose but would never fix it. You know I have had work done so I have no problem with it. BUT, if you come out looking like a different person, you have done something wrong. Quote Blah.

I would not be willing to judge anyone as being shallow who undergoes plastic surgery, just because they under went plastic surgery. I think there are quite a few people who have surgery because they are shallow, but I don't think they all are. It would be easy for someone pretty to say that someone plain or even ugly is shallow for trying to improve their appearance. I used to think the same thing. But, we have never lived their lives or been subjected to the treatment they have, so I don't think it is really fair to judge so harshly. phreakwars Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 True confessions... I have actually had cosmetic surgery done. I had it done when I was 15 to remove acne. My mom is one of those types with all kinds of acne scars and pits, and I was afraid I would get the same complexion she did. I used to have TONS of fucking black heads and white heads. And I knew that if something wasn't done about them, then I would also lead a life with a scarred up face.. So I had the surgery done... and I can honestly say, it REALLY fucking hurt !! My cheeks both felt like someone beat the living shit out of me for about a week, and the rest of my face felt like it was dipped in acid.. But, it was all worth it in the end. The only sign that I ever had acne is a small pit on the upper part of my forehead. . . Quote https://www.facebook.com/phreakwars
Sabella Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 I don't think I would ever do it myself, but if someone feels the need, why not? Some people are comfortable in their skin, whether it be because they're actually good looking or they accept and love who they are no matter what they look like. However, if someone can't like themselves as they look, and they have the money and will to do it, go ahead. Though there is a limit when people should probably stop. Especially when it comes to certain celebs. Quote

Especially when it comes to certain celebs. Again, I don't think people should automatically jump to the conclusion that if someone has some kind of cosmetic surgery, it must be because they aren't comfortable in their own skin. That would be like saying anyone who wears make up to improve the way that look has low self esteem. I'm getting lasic surgery because glasses and contacts are a pain in the ass. I would get a chemical peal on my face because it gets rid of dead skin and makes the skin feel baby soft. I would get the laser hair removal because, as Phantom put it, I'm lazy and don't like to shave. Quote Smart men learn from their own mistakes; Wise men learn from others. KathyA Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 I would absolutely consider having small procedures done. Not to alter my current appearance in the fashion that it would make me unrecognizable. But just to improve what I already have. In my opinion there is nothing wrong with that. Phantom Posted November 9, 2006 Author Posted November 9, 2006 . The above examples represent the good and the bad of cosmetic surgery. The subject on the left, Jocelyn Wildenstein, completely altered her appearance from its original form, underwent cosmetic procedures in an effort to please her husband and fix her insecurities, and had so many procedures done that she became addicted to the process. The subject on the right, Demi Moore, represents everything beneficial about cosmetic surgery. She still looks like the same person, views cosmetic surgery as an up-keep, and has just enough done to maintain her appearance without going overboard. Quote Blah.

phreakwars Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 . Jocelyn Wildenstein did that to herself on purpose. She wants to turn her face into one that looks like a cat. The chick fucking lost it after her husband was fucking a younger girl, so she decided to fuck her own face up and live with her fucking cats instead of the real world. Crazy ass bitch, she used to be fine as hell. . . Quote https://www.facebook.com/phreakwars
