builder Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Fuckin' oath. How's a bloke supposed to feed his kids, pay off a car, buy fuel, and support a mortgage on chickenfeed wages? Quote Persevere, it pisses people off.
hugo Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 There is no need for a minimum wage. It is a tyrannical infringement on the rights of parties to voluntarily enter a labor contract. It also harms unskilled entry level workers. eddo Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 dumbasses in my state just voted to raise the minimum wage from $5.15 to $6.75. grrrrrrrrrr Quote I'm trusted by more women.
Phantom Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Raising the minimum wage means higher wages for unskilled workers, obviously. But it has been said raising the minimum wage also increases costs for employers, which in turn sparks more inflation, which in turn raises the cost of products and still makes things hard for unskilled workers. A vicious cycle, in other words. Quote Blah.
snafu Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Getting elected in 1968, Senator Ted Stevens is the senior Senator with 37 years. (2003) Article on Sen Ted Stevens, Republican from Alaska, who is chairman of Senate Appropriations Committee and who is known for short fuse and long memory; colleagues are reluctant to cross him; reputation puts him in strong position to restore more than $1 billion cut by House and Senate from Pres George W Bush's $87 billion emergency spending request for Iraq and Afghanistan; Stevens is known as someone who gets things done, even if he has to add fuel to fire; his colleagues hold that Stevens never directly retaliates against opponents. • Voted YES on banning partial birth abortions except for maternal life. (Mar 2003) • Voted YES on criminal penalty for harming unborn fetus during other crime. (Mar 2004) • Voted YES on $40B in reduced federal overall spending. (Dec 2005) • Voted YES on recommending Constitutional ban on flag desecration. (Jun 2006) • Voted YES on limiting death penalty appeals. (Apr 1996) • Voted NO on disallowing an oil leasing program in Alaska's AMWR. (Nov 2005) • Voted NO on enlarging NATO to include Eastern Europe. (May 2002) • Voted YES on reauthorizing the PATRIOT Act. (Mar 2006) http://www.ontheissues.org/Senate/Ted_Stevens.htm I really like my Senator. hugo Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Does anybody know anyone past the age of 30 who makes the minimum wage? Commie boy probably does. Vortex Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Does anybody know anyone past the age of 30 who makes the minimum wage? Commie boy probably does. When i was waiting tables i made minimum...but that didnt include the tips i was getting...so the minimum wage was just a bonus (or at least to eat up the taxes of the tips i was claiming). So I can say i made minimum wage in my 30's quite proudly...granted i was earning 30K a year or more...so i guess that isnt fair! Unless i was back in nebraska where tipped employees have a different minimum wage at 2.15 i think it was...it kinda sucked...many times after claiming tips i actually OWED my employer money...that was crappy.. But seriously...I dont know any sensible person who actually MAKES the flat minimum wage beyond the age of even 17...... at 16 fine....earn crap to get job experience at your 13 hour a week job, and have some spending money to buy glow sticks or the latest and greatest Kevin Federline CD..whoopie..........but any person out there who has even a quarter of a brain can find AND hold down a job that at least pays 9+ bux an hour. Hell our host staff earns like 10 an hour...and none of them are over 20. I agree with minimum wage being increased from time to time.....but not like every 2 years....maybe every 6. For some that cant function that well i think its a must (like mentally challenged folk, the elderly who cant afford their doctor bills and have to go to work fast food after having a high paying carreer all their life and now am screwed..., or people who get injured who used their physical skills to work, yes they need that increase.....)...but Christ...most babysitters make minimum wage or more...and its tax free.. enough with the handouts for people who dont need it already....Im liberal and all...but fuck those who think someone owes them anything financially!!!! Quote -I don't know about you...but I am SICK and tired of being nice and understanding!!! -The Liver is evil and must be punished! -The Early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese. How can your opinion be the correct one....if, infact, its only an opinion?!?!
