builder Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Is this based on fact? Funny either way. SCHOOL ANSWERING MACHINE (This is hilarious - no wonder some people were offended!) This is the message that the Pacific Palisades High School ( California ) staff voted unanimously to record on their school telephone answering machine. This is the actual answering machine message for the school. This came about because they implemented a policy requiring students and parents to be responsible for their children's absences and missing homework. The school and teachers are being sued by parents who want their children's failing grades changed to passing grades - even though those children were absent 15-30 times during the semester and did not complete enough schoolwork to pass their classes. The outgoing message: "Hello! You have reached the automated answering service of your school. In order to assist you in connecting to the right staff member, please listen to all the options before making a selection: To lie about why your child is absent - Press 1 To make excuses for why your child did not do his work- Press 2 To complain about what we do - Press 3 To swear at staff members - Press 4 To ask why you didn't get information that was already enclosed in your newsletter and several flyers mailed to you - Press 5 If you want us to raise your child - Press 6 If you want to reach out and touch, slap or hit someone - Press 7 To request another teacher, for the third time this year - Press 8 To complain about bus transportation - Press 9 To complain about school lunches - Press 0 If you realize this is the real world and your child must be accountable and responsible for his/her own behavior, class work, homework and that it's not the teachers' fault for your child's lack of effort: Hang up and have a nice day! If you can read this - thank a teacher! If you are reading it in English - thank a veteran! 1 Quote Persevere, it pisses people off.
Msixty Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 If you can read this - thank a teacher! If you are reading it in English - thank a veteran! very good point! and as for the message, that is funny as hell, i wish they would let all schools get away with that. Quote Your stupidity is My weapon WARNING! my mood and mental state are strongly influenced by music and T.V./movies..... i may seem the slightest bit insane.. just don't let me watch my favorite show and or listen to my music and it will all be alright.
ParasiteGod Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Dude that's my high school and I helped them write that. Quote I want to report a double murder. phreakwars Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Do I detect a GF influence in that message ??? Truth or fiction.com reports that as FALSE Eryka, don't be talking shit now. http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/p/pacificpalisadeshigh.htm And yes, I do know that it is indeed your school, or at least you are connected onto their network.. . . ParasiteGod Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 No because I lied. But you know it's something I'd do. Quote I want to report a double murder. Jhony5 Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Funny...meh kinda. But don't you guys think that makes them sound awful cocky? If I called my daughters school and got that shit for a message I'd drive right down there and have a few choice words. Imagine its 6AM and your child is vomiting and your late getting ready for work. So you call your child's school and get bitched at by a recording that offers no choice to you but to choose an option that belittles you as a parent. Now I know that this particular school may be dealing with a lot of shit from really bad parents. They're probably sick of it. But there has to be a better way then to act like smartass kids playing on a telephone. They are supposed to be professional after all. Directly target the specific parents who are allowing their child to fuck their school career away. Honestly all, wouldn't that make your blood boil to hear that shit? Quote i am sofa king we todd did.
builder Posted November 11, 2006 Author Posted November 11, 2006 Honestly all, wouldn't that make your blood boil to hear that shit? It's supposed to make your blood boil, Jhony5 Suck it up. We don't want a generation of retarded fuckers running around, pretending to know what's going down. Got it?Good. Quote Persevere, it pisses people off.
Feckless Wench Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 That would be the perfect answerphone message for my school....cut out those calls, allow us to get on with actually TEACHING the 'precious' lil' bastids......and my day would be a lot easier! Quote Dementia is just a state of mind.

rizzo Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 It would make me laugh to hear that message! If my child really had been sick, I would not be offended by that message, because I would know that I was not one of "those" parents. If I were calling to lie about it, I would probably be offended. Quote
Feckless Wench Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Rizzo, you would not believe the amount of parents who ARE willing to lie. It's pathetic! What hope have their kids ever got of growing up to be responsible, honest adults. 1 Quote Dementia is just a state of mind.

Quote Persevere, it pisses people off.
Jhony5 Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 The fact that the message doesn't have an option for parents that aren't shity says clearly what the attitude of this administration is. They obviously think every parent sucks and its their job to raise everyones kid. Cry me a fucking river already. I say erase the childish message and act like professionals. That being said I do think they should harass the problem parents. My ex-girlfriend used to lie for her teenage daughter. Often as a reward or if she had a bad day at school, she would tell her to just take the day off and would call in for her. Then she'd wonder why her grades were slipping. I always told her that was a real fucking bad idea. Send a series of letters home to the parents that actually do this. Maybe call them everyday and ask if their child is coming to school today. hugo Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 The teachers are doing a lousy job raising kids. They should get a pay cut. angie Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Can't anyone take a joke? I thought it was funny. Just for you, Jhony. Thought it'd make ya feel better. http://www.snopes.com/humor/iftrue/palisades.htm Claim: Pacific Palisades High School placed an unusual message on their school telephone answering system. Status: False. Example: [Collected on the Internet, 2002] The putative answering machine message for Palisades Charter High quoted above was concocted in part as a reaction to the brouhaha over the school's attendance policy, and in part as a sardonic expression of all the usual frustrations teachers experience in dealing with students and parents: fabricated excuses for students' absences and uncompleted homework, blame that teachers are solely responsible for the failures of non-achieving students, complaints from parents about not having received information already sent to them several times, etc. However, the staff "voted" for the message only in the sense that they agreed with its sentiments (the circulating version of this piece often omits the introductory line "Too bad they can't actually use it . . ."); it was not ever actually placed on the phone answering system at Palisades Charter High. Maybe you people should turn the volume down on your PC's, because it seems you think I'm shouting when I'm just stating my opinion. I too agree with the sentiments expressed. However a schools administration is not to use smartass attitude to discourage poor parenting by a minority percentage of the students. Theres no way that a majority of the students have excessive absenteeism. If that was the case I could almost agree that a message of that tone would be warranted. Quote i am sofa king we todd did.

No it would be inappropriate IF it had been put on the answering service. Who hasn't made inappropriate jokes/comments about people they serve? You have to, just to keep yourself from going insane. The one place where individualism and ones sense of humor is squashed with every sighting. No they shouldn't make smart ass comments about parents with an assumption that they all suck and can't raise their kids. Some of the parents suck, ya, agreed. But to even suggest scolding ALL the parents that call in to the school via a smart ass answering machine with an attitude, is highly unprofessional and suggests that the administration of this particular school is incapable of handling the stress. Theres a reason why they didn't actually post this message on their answering service. Because they know that it would be highly inappropriate. Which just shows that I'm right, as usual.
