Can I in-place upgrade Win 7 Home Premium to Win 7 Pro using Full Version product?

I have a computer with Windows 7 Home Premium. I want to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional, preserving my already installed applications, user accounts and data (i.e. I want upgrade, not do a clean install). I already have a (never-installed) full-version W7 Pro product so I don't want to use the "Anytime Upgrade" web upgrade. I'm a little confused by some online souces which indicate that the upgrade path from W7 Home Premium to W7 Pro isn't supported. Does anyone have experience with the upgrade I describe and is it supported?
