Guest BrozfromOz Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Hi I have a VAIO laptop running Windows 7. All latest updates installed. Bought in UK but I am now based in Australia. 95% of the time my VAIO connects to wifi networks without any problem. However twice in the past month I've been frustrated by a problem where the VAIO connects to the network but will not load emails or webpages. On both occasions the "Network & Sharing Center" window displays that the PC is connected to the network and that it does have internet access. The signal shows full strength service and when I hover the mouse over the connection strength icon bottom right of the taskbar, a pop-up confirms the correct wifi connection and confirms I have "internet access" However when I try to download my emails, or load any internet page on either Chrome or Explorer, it stalls and defaults to an error screen saying the page was unavailable and says that the computer was unable to locate the DNS for the requested page. The first time this happened was at my parents house, but other guests' laptops could easily connect to my parents' wifi and get full internet access over their OPTUS brand wifi. Only my laptop would not load, despite showing it had full connectivity. Most recently the problem has happened when trying to use a new pre-paid TELSTRA brand wifi. However if I disconnect from the TELSTRA network and connect to an alternative VODAFONE wifi network, it works perfectly and instantly. I've checked that the pre-paid accounts are all activated and have plenty of credit and data availability. TELSTRA were unable to suggest any solutions after a total of 4 and a half hours of so called 'tech-support'! I'd be grateful of any suggestions. I feel like it is some kind of simple communication error where my 'VAIO CARE' programme has interfered with some new networks - (it asked if I wanted to create a profile for each new network and I accidentally click yes - could this have caused an issue?) Anyway, sorry for the long question, wanted to try and list all relevant info. Thanks in advance for your suggestions of help. Continue reading... Quote
