Guest newbe4life Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 To all that have helped before THANK YOU. Your love for the subject far outweighs your need for financial remuneration. Since you are the official Unofficial Microsoft help desk you answer inquires when you can with experienced knowledge and straight forward plans for us to follow. Usually this results in the requestor being disabused of their ignorance. Allowing them to wrangle the offending confuserator back in to line, once again subservient to the master’s wishes. Your only rewards for such selfless actions are, as far as I know, our veneration and the recognition, approval and commendation of your peers and Microsoft. With this in mind, I present again an unusual, for my installation, situation. HP dv 9000 series, Yes I had the pleasure of reseating my video chip. Vista 32 spk 2, IE 9, MSE download ver. 2.1.1116.0, Nort/Syman 360 and Mbam (PRO) All with current updates. Yes, I am aware that our OS supplier has stated we shouldn’t run something else with MSE or BAD THINGS will happen but Win98/ME burned off my lemming suit and besides I’m sort of a belt-n-suspenders kind of guy. So far, these three have been behaving themselves quite admirably. Diligently protecting me, both from myself and nobody knows how many nasties on the web. With no apparent problems. One exception, MSE slimed my machine with approximately 150 MpKsl files that these forums helped me to understand and remedy. Now the question emerges. With Vista disabling but not allowing the removal of WinDef why would a Control Panel call to change startup programs arouse WinDef? Demanding to be turned on and if not then refusing to allow access to programs. It is my machine. I am the admin. I used Mr. Norton’s work to make my changes. (I had too much going on at boot) Again thanks to all the contributors to these forums. While reading your replies I have been pounding the green button. Hope it helps. :{) Continue reading... Quote
